With the continuation of blockade.. warehouses are about to run out of flour

The residents of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiye neighborhoods are facing siege imposed by the "Fourth Division" of Damascus government.

Among the sectors affected by the siege were the bakery, as a result of the consumption of the reserve stock of flour from which bread is made.

According to the Economic Council in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiye neighborhoods, there are only 300 tons of flour left in its warehouses, a quantity that will only last for 10 more days.

In an interview with ANHA agency, the co-chair of Economic Council in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiye neighborhoods, Salah Ahmed Turki, warned of the dangers of continuing the siege, indicating that the stock of flour in the warehouses is about to run out, and it will not last for more than 10 days.

7 bakeries in the two neighborhoods make bread, that it need more than 80 barrels of fuel oil per week to operate generators and machines for preparing bread, which is distributed through the communes to the people.

Turki said that "Fourth Division" affiliated with the Damascus government impose siege on the 2 neighborhoods always, but what distinguishes the last period of the siege is its endeavor to suffocate the people living in the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafiye and Shahba of all ages, and create many difficulties and obstacles for them, most notably depriving them of heating fuel.

Turki added, "Our warehouses are about to run out of flour, If the siege continues at this pace, the work of the bakeries will stop during the next week, and the work of the bakeries requires 70 to 80 barrels of diesel per week to prepare bread through machines."

Salah Ahmed Turki, appealed to all human rights organizations and concerned parties to find an immediate solution, and said, "Hundreds of thousands of people live here. The Fourth Division is the one who stands against the people, in addition to imposing royalties on them, we do not ask them for fuel and flour, but we only want them to open roads for us to bring the basics and necessities of life into our neighborhoods."
