Jurists in Raqqa decry the isolation against Ocalan

Human rights activists from the city of Raqqa denounced the isolation applied to the leader Abdullah Ocalan, and criticized the practices that are far from fairness of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture, calling on their lawyer counterparts in the world to work to draw attention to the alarming situation in Imrali prison.

The Turkish occupation state continues to impose strict isolation on leader Ocalan. For fear of his democratic ideology, which contradicts its policies, violating all international laws.

In this regard, the co-chair of the Lawyers' Union in the city of Raqqa, Khaled al-Hassan, told ANHA’s agency, "Turkey has violated all international laws and regulations and human rights laws, since the beginning of the kidnapping of leader Ocalan in 1999, in a sovereign country."

Noting, "The Turkish aggression committed clear violations against the leader Ocalan by placing him in his solitary cell, which is considered contrary to any political detainee, given that he is not a criminal or has anything to do with terrorism, in addition to preventing his family and lawyer from visiting him or meeting him, and this is also a clear violation of the human rights.”

Al-Hassan criticized the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture, saying, "It has nothing to do with fairness and impartiality."

Al-Hassan appealed to "all free jurists and jurists worldwide, to form a legal law capable of communicating and drawing attention to the health condition of leader Ocalan in his prison, and his right to visit his family and lawyers."

He added, "Turkey has signed the Right to Hope Law; the law that gives every political detainee in any prison, who has reached 70 years of age, and whose detention period has exceeded 20 years, the right to hope that he will be released from prison and spend the rest of his life among his family members and the Turkish regime has excluded Mr. Ocalan from this right, formed a court for him and prevented him from defending himself, accusing him of charges that had nothing to do with his opinion, thought and policy.

He continued, "The Autonomous Administration project depends on the principle of the democratic nation and the brotherhood of peoples, and it has become the aspiration of all the peoples of the Middle East."

In the conclusion of his speech, al-Hassan confirmed that what the leader is being subjected to in his prison now "reaches the level of international war crimes."

In her turn, the co-chair of the Lawyers' Union in the city of Raqqa, Khadija Budaiwi, said, "There is no attention to the flagrant violation of human rights that began with the kidnapping of leader Ocalan, and the attempt to undermine the project he advocated."

And she stated, "The leader's condition in prison is unknown from a health point of view, and there is no news about him."

"We, in the Leader's Defense Committee, send memorandums periodically to demand the leader's physical freedom and his right to hope and to disclose his health status," she added.

At the end of her speech, Khadija affirmed, "The people of Northern and East Syria adhere to the popular resistance and stand by the Syrian Democratic Forces to confront the Turkish occupation and liberate the occupied areas, and demand the physical freedom of the leader Ocalan."
