​​​​​​​ Medical cadres in Afrin warn: Cutting off pharmaceuticals has serious consequences

 Today, Tuesday, dozens of medical personnel from the Afrin region, who are located in the Afrin Hospital located in the Favin district of al-Shahba canton, gathered to make a statement condemning the suffocating siege imposed by the Damascus government on al-Shahba canton.

 The statement was read in Arabic by a member of the Health Authority of the Afrin region, Talaat Wol, and it came at the beginning:

 "For nearly 5 years of the tragedy and crime of the occupation of Afrin, its displaced people to al-Shahba canton have been suffering from conditions of siege and restrictions on them by preventing the entry of food supplies, medicines, hospital supplies and fuel to al-Shahba."

 He added, "However, the aforementioned siege, more than two months ago, has increased in intensity and severity, and the conditions of those displaced have become more tragic, as basic materials, fuel, medicines, and medical supplies in general have been prevented, which threatens a real humanitarian catastrophe, especially in the harsh winter conditions."  And within the camps, and with the imminent danger of hospitals and health institutions stopping completely from functioning, although over the past years they have been providing free services to all citizens and all components, without discrimination, whether they are displaced or residents.

 Pointing out, "Undoubtedly, this complete cutting off of supplies of fuel and pharmaceuticals in particular will have dire consequences for the conditions of patients, especially those in intensive care departments, and those in urgent need of surgical interventions."

 The statement affirmed, "Continuing to use the weapon of siege and harassing citizens and the forcibly displaced from their lands, preventing the entry of necessary needs for them, especially health ones, and making them within the scope of political tensions, contradicts the most basic moral and humanitarian principles."

 In its conclusion, the statement denounced "the silence of the countries and the influential forces concerned with the Syrian issue, as well as the human rights and humanitarian organizations and organizations, towards these pressures and practices aimed at breaking the will of steadfastness and resistance among our people."
