Arab newspapers.. Damascus government defends the decision of raise fuel prices

Today, the Arab newspapers discussed  the Damascus government raising fuel prices.

Al-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper said: "In light of the economic crisis, the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad announced a rise in the prices of gasoline and diesel fuel, which sparked a wave of discontent among citizens who were already suffering from a miserable living situation. Syrian Prime Minister Hussein Arnous defended, in a press conference in Damascus yesterday, the decision of raising fuel prices, and said: "We have two options, either the fuel would be lost from the market, or we increase their price in a way that would help secure it." According to German news agency.

An employee told Al-Sharq al-Awsat: "As every time, the decision will be followed by a new rise in the prices of foodstuffs and vegetables under the pretext of high transportation costs, and a rise in transportation fares, which citizens are already complaining. People are talking about a new hike in bread prices in the coming days." He adds, "The government is slaughtering people with its decisions, instead of helping them."

The monthly salary of a government employee does not exceed, at best, 150,000 S.L, while studies confirm that a family of five needs, in light of the current high prices, more than 3 million lira per month to secure a living."
