​​​​​​​ Newroz Ahmed: confirms world’s states must assume its duties towards al-Hol camp

The second phase of the "Humanity and Security" campaign at al-Hol camp ended today on its 24th day.

With regard to the end of the campaign, SDF General Command Member Newroz Ahmed and SDF Special Forces Member for the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, Clavid Tudor, made a statement during a press conference at al-Hol camp.

During the statement, Newroz Ahmed drew attention to the duties of the international forces and the seriousness of the camp, and said: "International institutions and the Global Coalition must carry out their duties as our forces have done."

As Clavid Tudor said: "We have a duty to support the SDF to secure stability in this camp until these families leave."

The campaign ended successfully.

Newroz Ahmed, recalling at the outset the SDF fighters martyred during the campaign, said: "We remember our comrades who were martyred in this campaign and all the fighters who were martyred against ISIS, despite all the threats and dangers to our regions, but at this point we started a campaign in al-Hol camp, which is the most dangerous place in the region and the world. This campaign ended successfully. A great effort has been made in cooperation between our forces and camp management. Of course, we are also grateful for the Global Coalition's participation. But the camp's danger persists. Many joint activities, especially for these camps where people live, have become the epicentre of extremist ideas, enabling their strength to be strengthened. About 60 thousand people live in this camp, mostly women and children. There are 60 thousand citizens. This is not only a threat to our region, it is a threat to the entire world ".

"Support is an insufficient unit"

Newroz Ahmed explained that the role of international forces and institutions is limited only by the provision of services to the camp, and said: "To a certain extent, assistance has been provided by the United Nations, humanitarian organizations and the Global Coalition for the improvement of humanitarian and service conditions in the camp. We appreciate it, but it's not enough. It is essential that the world's powers, international institutions and the Global Coalition perform their tasks as our forces do. The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria AANES and the management of the camp are carrying out their duties and we will continue to perform these duties.”

"External support and assistance are certainly also necessary. The primary risk is the risk of sleeper cells located inside the camp. Of course the danger here will affect the entire region. Thus, they strengthen their relations with the outside world, which is not confined to our regions but rather that they have relations in the areas under the occupation and mercenary of the Turkish state and in Iraq and Syria, thereby increasing the risks. "

Newroz Ahmed stated that ISIS sleeper cell activity had increased outside the camp as well, especially in Deir ez-Zor areas, and said: "Recently, 6 of our comrades have been brutally martyred. This shows that ISIS is getting stronger, if we don't keep working together, if we don't work together in all aspects, ISIS will take advantage of the situation and expand again. "

Newroz Ahmed stated that they would continue to struggle against extremist ideas: "Unless stability and protection are secured in the camp and the situation of the camp and the people of the region as a whole is improved, this will lead ISIS and other mercenary groups to organize and thus pose a threat to the entire world. This campaign is over, but our struggle will continue in order to eliminate ISIS from the roots, secure the area and safely return the people of the camps. Our struggle will continue and we will do everything that lies with us. But at the same time, we appeal to those States and all world powers to return the people here to their countries as soon as possible or to provide stronger support so that we can build a safe life together.

We give this common message in order to strengthen joint efforts and achieve stronger results."

"We are surprised by the situation in al-Hol camp."

Clavid Tudor also spoke: "The SDF and the Global Coalition are cooperating with the Internal Security Forces to maintain peace in al-Hol camp. Before this campaign began, we had no doubt that ISIS cells in the camp were intimidating or threatening people inside the camp. The tents were used to hide and carry out terrorist operations in the camp. Before the campaign began, we had no doubt about the SDF's experience and dedication to keeping the al-Hol camp safe and limiting ISIS and its terrorist activities in the camp. As a result of the Global Coalition’s cooperation with the Internal Security Forces, we have seen how powerful this force is today on the ground. We are surprised that the tents were used by ISIS women for hiding, and children and women were prosecuted and punished in tents. At the same time, they spread ISIS extremist ideology in al-Hol camp. "

"The best human solution is in this camp."

Clavid Tudor explained that the best humanitarian solution was in the camp, and said: "This campaign shows the strength of the SDF and its experience in preventing the spread of ISIS ideas in the camp. In the light of these developments, we will continue to fulfil our duty to support the SDF to assist refugees in the camp. The best human solution is in this camp.

This will be done through States' reception, integration and education of their citizens in camps. All countries must come to receive their citizens and return them to their countries. We call on all States whose citizens are present in this camp, children, women and men, to come and receive their citizens and support the humanitarian activities carried out here. There is no military solution to the Syrian crisis and to the camps here. For that reason, diplomatic, political and security work was essential, and the assistance of humanitarian organizations was also important. Although ISIS was defeated geographically, its danger will always remain in this area. ISIS dreams of returning, re-entering society, rebuilding itself, carrying out terrorist acts and posing a threat to many neighbouring States ".

"We will continue to support the SDF."

Clavid Tudor explained that their goal is to support the SDF for the total elimination of ISIS and said: "Until the international community finds a solution for the return of these families, we will not stop our cooperation and support. Our duty is to support the SDF so that peace can prevail in this camp until these families can leave and become active members of society. This mission was not easy and we offer deepest our condolences to the martyrs.”
