Expert on extremist movements and international terrorism: SDF must be supported in confronting Turkey and ISIS

 The activity of ISIS mercenaries has recently increased in northern and eastern Syria, especially inside the Al-Hol camp, the most dangerous camp in the world, where the crime rate inside the camp has increased significantly, at a time when the Turkish occupation state threatens to launch and continue large-scale attacks to destabilize the security and stability of the region through its daily bombardment, which  It would affect the counter-terrorism operation led by the Syrian Democratic Forces with the support of the international coalition against ISIS and its remnants.

 In a statement issued on the 25th of this month, the General Command of the Internal Security Forces revealed that ISIS mercenary cells had carried out 43 terrorist operations, in which 44 people from the residents of Al-Hol camp were killed or executed, including (14 women and two children), and the camp witnessed about 13 kidnapping attempts for residents.  It was carried out by ISIS cells, and other cases focused on burning tents while the victims were sleeping, destroying relief materials and supplies of medical and service institutions, and many cases of causing chaos and attempting to remove the security barriers surrounding the camp, during the current year.

The statement stated, "The control of al-Hol camp was the next target of ISIS terrorists within its latest plan to control the al-Sina'a prison in al-Hasakah, as terrorist cells inside and outside the camp tried many times to attack and make holes in the security walls and gates, starting from a corridor linking the eastern regions of Syria."  With the Iraqi borders and the Syrian Badia, as well as the Turkish borders, in conjunction with the attack on Al-Sina’a prison, where our forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces arrested many of them and thwarted their dangerous plan, but this plan remained dangerously in place during the last period.”

 On January 20, ISIS mercenary cells launched an attack on the prison in the Ghweran neighborhood of Hasaka, in an effort to smuggle ISIS detainees, but the Syrian Democratic Forces confronted them and thwarted the scheme, after confrontations that lasted about a week.

 Accordingly, on the 25th of this month, the Internal Security Forces, with the support of the Syrian Democratic Forces, the People's Protection Units and Women, launched a security and combing campaign against ISIS mercenary cells, which is the second phase of the "Humanity and Security" campaign.

 As part of the campaign, the forces began their first security activities inside the al-Hol camp, by combing the first sector designated for Iraqi refugees, to search and investigate ISIS mercenary cells, while the campaign is still continuing.

 Al-Hol camp consists of 8 main sectors, inhabited by more than 54,390 people, between Syrians and Iraqis, while the families of ISIS mercenaries form 8091.  In finding a radical solution to develop a comprehensive strategy for the eradication of terrorist ideology.

 Turkish escalation activates ISIS

In a special statement to our agency, Munir Adib, an expert on extremist movements and international terrorism, considered the increase in the activity of ISIS mercenaries and the crime rate in al-Hol camp, in light of the escalation of Turkish threats to launch an attack on northeastern Syria and the continuation of its drones targeting the area as a "real crisis," and said  "ISIS families are taking advantage of the Turkish missile targeting of the area, in order to carry out revenge operations, try to escape from the camp, or kill some of those who do not comply with their laws that they impose.  The political, military and security conditions surrounding them,” stressing that Turkey seeks to use political Islam organizations to implement its plans in northeastern Syria and to serve its political interests with some neighboring countries or within a series of international relations.

 He went on to say, "There is no doubt that any Turkish operation against northeastern Syria, whatever its motives, poses a real danger to the strategies of confronting ISIS and the rebel movements and extremist organizations in these camps, and I believe that any military action against northeastern Syria is in the interest of ISIS."  Therefore, the international community must intervene in the face of any military action against the region so that it does not reflect on the strength of ISIS, whether sleeper cells, even active or passive cells, or even those extremists present in the camps that were established with the aim of their presence in them.

 Deporting them to their homeland.. and stopping the Turkish attacks

 He noted that the only solution to confronting ISIS remnants in al-Hol camp and other camps that harbor extremists and ISIS families is to dismantle and send these ISIS members to the countries from which they came.  A large number of extremists, whether they are children, elderly people, or even ISIS families, so the only solution to these time bombs in northeastern Syria is to dismantle and send these extremists to the countries from which they came and then they are dealt with.”

 He added: "As for the situation of these ISIS members in prisons in northeastern Syria, it is considered a burden that northeastern Syria cannot bear. It is enough that the Syrian Democratic Forces struggled and confronted ISIS, and the role here remains for the international community to receive these extremists according to their origins and the homeland from which they came, so  It is important to dismantle these camps so that the danger that emerges from them is dealt with according to the extent of this danger.”

At the conclusion of his speech, the expert on extremist movements and international terrorism, Munir Adib, stressed the need for "the international community to support the Syrian Democratic Forces in facing the threat of ISIS mercenaries and extremist organizations in northeastern Syria, whether inside or outside the camps and prisons, and supporting them in the face of the increasing Turkish targets on the region, which is in the interest of the strength of ISIS and its cells located in northeastern Syria, and weakens the force that has been placed on its shoulders the responsibility of confronting this extremist organization.

 It is worth noting that the first phase of the "Humanity and Security" campaign, which was implemented by the Internal Security Forces with the support of the Syrian Democratic Forces and the People's Protection Units and Women, was launched on March 28, 2021, and ended on April 2 of the same year, and resulted in the arrest of 125 mercenaries within sleeper cells of  ISIS is affiliated with 20 leaders.
