PUk condemns Zakho massacre and calls for end to Turkish violations

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan condemned the massacre committed by the Turkish occupation forces in Zakho district, and called on the Iraqi government to take a decisive position in order to "put an end to the violation of the country's sovereignty."

The PUK said in a statement, "We condemn and denounce the Turkish violations against the sky and land of Iraq, which target citizens, agricultural lands and tourist places in the Kurdistan region on an ongoing basis.

After several times of our calls to the Iraqi government to put an end to the Turkish attacks, today the Turkish planes bombed the village of Barkh in Zakho district, killing 9 tourists and wounding 22 others, mostly women and children.

It is not reasonable for us to express our protest and condemnation through statements only in order to face another attack and aggression. The Iraqi government must play its role, have a decisive position and enter into a serious dialogue with Turkey in order to put an end to the violation of the country's sovereignty, because the Turkish military violations against the sovereignty of Iraq and its targeting of the Kurdistan region is a very dangerous matter and a flagrant violation of international laws and treaties and the principles of good neighborliness.
