Turkish occupation state continues to target NE Syria people' livelihood

Turkish occupation state's lowering of Euphrates River water level more than a year ago has affected the daily lives of millions of Syrians.

Despite the rumors that Turkish state pumped quantities of Euphrates River, the course of the river shows the opposite, as the Euphrates is still at its lowest level in more than a year after Turkey deliberately lowered the water level.

Since January 27, 2021, Turkish occupation has reduced the water level of Euphrates River flowing into Syrian territory.

The water coming from the Euphrates River constitutes 35% of the total amount of water consumed each year, and is used to supply cities and towns, agriculture and generate electric power.

ANHA agency met Engineer Hammoud al-Hamaden, one of the administrators in Rojava Dam, he said that the drop in water level affects the level of electricity supply to areas, which reached catastrophic levels during the past year, as some areas experienced 2 or 3 hours of electric current every 24 hours, and the dams were working only 6 hours a day.

Hammoud al-Hammaden added that there is a great danger if the situation continues as it is, pointing to the low levels of drinking water and a complete power outage, if Turkey continues to deliberately reduce the water level.
