​​​​​​​ Patriotic figures: Martyr  Agîd shocks enemy, awakens Kurds

 The martyr Masoum Korkmaz " Agîd" was the first commander of the armed forces HRK "Kurdistan Liberation Forces" of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, which was announced after the second congress of the party in 1982, where the decision was taken to return to Bakur (Northern Kurdistan) to start an armed struggle to stop the massacres   and Turkish crackdowns against the Kurdish people.

 August 15, 1984 witnessed the day of "the resurrection of a new life" as the Kurdish people called it in Kurdistan, when the Kurdistan PKK announced the armed struggle led by the leader Masoum Korkmaz " Agîd" for the first time 6 years after the announcement of the founding of the party.  That stage is the "August 15 Leap."

 The military commander, Masoum Korkmaz, was martyred on the 28th of March 1986 at the foot of the Gabar Mountains in Kurdistan, becoming a symbol of heroism in the history of the national liberation struggle.

 On the anniversary of his martyrdom, our agency met patriotic figures from the city of Kobani, who spoke about the martyr's role in the contemporary Kurdish revolution.

 Mahmoud Saleh Muhammad, from the village of Alichar, east of the city of Kobani, father of two fighters from the Guerilla Forces, and the brother of the martyr Hamid Kobani, got acquainted with the PKK in 1979 in the town of Suruj, Northern Kurdistan, through party members there, and has since been involved in the revolutionary work.

 Saleh Muhammad says, "No one can claim Kurdishism unless he realizes the importance of the martyr and the August 15 leap. He is the military commander who took historic steps on the path to liberating the Kurdish people."

 Adding, "The Turkish enemy has announced to the world that the Kurds have been wiped out. Here the thought and wisdom of the leader Abdullah Ocalan and the heroism of the martyred Agîd gathered, to present this merger a great surprise to the enemy and to the Kurdish people, when he announced hitting the enemy at the height of his strength and declaring the struggle at the time, the repercussions of that were huge, the world was preoccupied with this strike."

 Mahmoud Muhammad talks about the stage that followed the declaration of armed struggle in Kurdistan, saying, "Thousands of sons and daughters of our Kurdish people joined the Kurdistan liberation movement. Martyr  Agîd revived the spirit of resistance.  This spirit and this blessed and righteous struggle must be preserved.”

 The national figure and brother of the martyr Muhammad Kobani, Ahmed Rashad, said in turn, "The heroism of the martyr is a continuity of the heroism of the resistance fighters in Amed prison. From Nowruz in 1982 to the August 1984 leap, the Kurds lived a fateful stage, its heroes Mazloum Dogan, Muhammad Khairy Dormash and the other comrades, all the way to the martyr Agîd, who broke the restrictions imposed on the Kurds and announced a new stage in the history of the Kurdish people.

 Ahmed Rashad added, "The martyr  Agîd awakened the Kurds and changed the Kurdish reality. His chances were aimed at awakening the Kurds as much as they were directed at the enemy."

 “No one may go outside the scope of the plan without permission, and trenches may not be left for whatever reasons, the fire must be calamitous and deadly, the bullets must not be consumed in the wrong place, the comrades must avoid aiming the guns at the comrade in front of them, everyone  to be vigilant; to avoid injuring any civilians, looting is prohibited, and everyone must abide by the defensive system of the withdrawal process.” These were the last words of Commander Masoum Korkmaz, as he led the Kurdish youth on the path to freedom, and lit the flame of resistance in Kurdistan against injustice and genocide.
