The AANES issued a statement to the public opinion on the occasion of the anniversary of the March 12 uprising which stated:

The March 12th marks the eighteenth anniversary of the 2004 Qamishlo uprising, which was an important pivotal shift in the modern history of Syria, as the Baath regime wanted to create an Arab-Kurdish strife through a football match between the two Fatwa and jihad at that time, which led to the martyrdom of dozens of Kurds and the wounding of others.

The Qamishlo massacre was committed by those who prevented the democratic trend in Syria for decades, as the authorities dealt with the demonstrators with the mentality of the security and national state, the chauvinistic state that always seeks to fabricate hostility and division between peoples, and whose ideology is based on the unilateral and individual system, as the nation state is based on a complete contradiction with any kind of democracies.

The aforementioned approach, and with the emergence of extremist movements such as ISIS, Jabhat al-Nusra, and others supported by Turkey, which has been hostile to the Syrian people for years, and are responsible  for hindering the Syrian solution so far, and Turkish occupation.

The statement continued, "The revolution of northern and eastern Syria and the democratic AANES are based on a democratic system that unites the peoples.  A democratic system is based on the nation’s democratic philosophy, and they share today in a joint democratic administration. This project was the appropriate response to the Qamishlo massacre.

This model is unique in the Middle East, which qualifies for the revolution in northern and eastern Syria to be not confined to the local environment, but to the whole region, which is a historical step that led to the revival of the original ties between the peoples torn by the central and nationalist state, and the guarantee for the success of this project was the approach of the democratic nation that takes the brotherhood of peoples and diversity as its basis. This will lead Syria to be a pioneer of the democratic revolution in the region as a whole.

The statement stressed, "We in the Democratic Autonomous Administration in northern and eastern Syria seek peace and stability in all of Syria. Our insistence on a democratic solution, dialogue and fighting terrorism is only in order to prevent division and fragment the unity of Syria, and to build the unity of peoples came in order to strengthen Syria against all forms of attacks;  From this point of view, we appeal to the Syrian state administration and democratic public opinion to work for national democratic change and to build a pluralistic, decentralized democratic system.

On the occasion of the anniversary of the Qamishlo uprising, while we remember it with honor and appreciation, which was considered the basic core of our revolution later, we promise our martyrs and our people in north and east Syria to follow the path of the martyrs of March 12 and the principles of the July 19 revolution until reaching a democratic Syria, pluralism without denial or exclusion, and working to achieve stability and justice  On terrorism, returning Afrin and other occupied areas to its people and liberating it from the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries.

Mercy to the martyrs.  Long live to the March 12 uprising.
