On Wednesday, Russian delegation headed by the Assistant Head of the Commission for the Rights of the Child to the President of the Russian Federation, Sergey Igorevich, visited the Department of Foreign Relations of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, in the city of Qamishlo in the Jazira region.

The Russian delegation was received by the co-chairs of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Autonomous Administration, Fanar al-Kait, and Abeer Elia.

After a meeting between the two parties at the headquarters of the Department of Foreign Relations, documents and handover protocols were signed by the Head of the Child Rights Commission to the President of the Russian Federation, Sergey Igorevich, and the Joint Vice-President of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, Abeer Elia.

During a press conference, Abeer Elia explained that the meeting that took place between them and the Assistant Head of the Children's Rights Commission to the President of the Russian Federation focused on the handing over of 9 children to ISIS mercenaries of Russian nationality.

Abeer confirmed that the children who were handed over to the Russian government are "orphans of parents and humanitarian cases, and their ages ranged between 5 and 16 years. This is not the first batch that we hand over to the Russian Federation, as it is considered the eighth batch, as the number of children who have been handed over has reached to Russia, according to an official extradition document between the two parties, 244 children since 2018.”

Abeer indicated that only returning children is not a radical solution, and continued, "Russia should cooperate with the Autonomous Administration on the ISIS file in general, whether in al-Hol camp or Roj, in addition to ISIS detainees held by the Syrian Democratic Forces."

Abeer stressed the need for the international community to do its duty regarding the file of ISIS mercenaries in north and east Syria, and indicated: "The Russian Federation and the international community must do their work to the fullest, not only by returning ISIS children who are from humanitarian cases, but also to consider this complex file that terrified the world." and the entire international community,” adding: “We in the Autonomous Administration always say that this file is dangerous for the whole world, especially the file of ISIS detainees who have not been tried so far.

Abeer confirmed that they are fully prepared to cooperate with the Russian Federation in this field.

For his part, the Assistant Head of the Commission for the Rights of the Child to the President of the Russian Federation, Sergey Igorevich, thanked the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria for their cooperation in handing over the children to the Russian government, and expressed their readiness to continue and continue this work until the last child was returned to his relatives and family in order to give the possibility and provide Medical and psychological assistance and their integration with their community in their homeland.
