​​​​​​​Beginning to open mass graves left by ISIS mercenaries in Hardan village of Shengal

The attack of ISIS mercenaries since more than 7 years ago on Shengal district left thousands of Yazidis victims, while dozens of mass graves in which the mercenaries buried Yazidi victims are still closed and the identities of those in them are still unknown.

Since the liberation of Shengal by People Defense Forces and Shengal Resistance Units, religious and official ceremonies have been held to open cemeteries, carry out analyzes to determine the identities of the victims and bury their remains according to Yezidi customs and traditions.

Today, as part of a religious and official ceremony, the work of opening the mass grave Hardan village(eastern side of Mount Shengal) has begun, with the participation of Baba Sheikh Ali Sheikh Elias (the supreme religious authority of Yazidi religion), in addition to a number of Yazidi clerics and the people of Hardan village and dozens of volunteers from Shengal district.

According to official statistics, 27 mass graves were opened in various areas of Shengal district, out of 86 that ISIS mercenaries left after their attack on the district on August 3, 2014.
