​​​​​​​Ahmi calls on the people to rely on local production to confront the siege

This came during a meeting held by ANHA' agency with the spokesman of Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, Luqman Ahmi, regarding the siege imposed on the people of the region, and he said: "Since the establishment of Autonomous Administration in 2014 until now, it has been subjected to military and economic pressures in order to thwart its democratic project that achieves the goals and the aspirations of the people of north and east Syria."

Luqman Ahmi stressed that Autonomous Administration emerges from within society and embraces all of society, and that its basis is the will, demands and needs of all components, and he continued, "For this reason, all authoritarian regimes, whether the Syrian regime or the regimes neighboring Syria are fighting this democratic project, because it does not agree with their authoritarian mentality. "

Multilateral siege

Ahmi stated that the efforts to thwart Autonomous Administration project began through military aggression, by attacks and occupying Autonomous Administration’s areas in north and east Syria such as Afrin, Serê Kani`, and Girê Spî, and said: "The authoritarian regimes failed to achieve their goal, because of the resistance that was demonstrated by the people of the region and Syrian Democratic Forces, so they resorted to economic blockade.

Ahmi also touched on the policy of fighting the people of NES through water, and said: "This siege was preceded by a water blockade, such as cutting the waters of Euphrates River by Turkish state from north and east Syria, which is followed by several service and economic areas of interest to the region, followed by cutting drinking water from Hasaka Province and its countryside.

Ahmi continued: " Semalka border crossing was also repeatedly closed by Kurdistan Democratic Party, in order to put pressure on Autonomous Administration and create difficulties in securing basic supplies and materials for citizens."

And on December19 2021, KDP forces closed Al-Walid Al-Swaydiya crossing in Kocharat area of Derik district, shortly after the closure of FishKhabur Semalka crossing in Rojava.

Local, regional and international forces trying to besiege the Autonomous Administration

Luqman Ahmi explained that authoritarian regimes and forces surrounding Autonomous Administration are trying to encircle it from all sides, whether Damascus government or mercenaries of Turkish occupation, or Kurdistan region, and some international parties such as Russia, which used its veto against the opening of Tel Kochar crossing in Security Council, worked to tighten the noose on the region Also.

On March 22, 2021, Damascus government closed Tabqa crossing, which connects its areas of control and Autonomous Administration’s areas, after closing Tal Kochar/Al Yaarubiya crossing in June 2021 with a Russian-Chinese veto.

Ahmi stressed that the process of economic siege will not end until reaching to a democratic political solution for Syrian crisis, and said: "So far, and over 8 years of the existence of Autonomous Administration, it has managed to overcome many difficulties, by relying on the people's struggle and their belief that the project of administration Autonomy is the only way to obtain his rights."

'Citizens must rely on local production and self-sufficiency'

Luqman Ahmi pointed to the necessity of self-reliance and resorting to local production, and said: "We must return to local production in agricultural lands and rely on existing industrial activities to break this siege."

Since its establishment, Autonomous Administration has been seeking to secure all service requirements and needs, health, food and others, for citizens, by opening several factories that depend on local production in NES, such as (My Sun) factory to fill sterile and healthy water, spinning and weaving factory, and (Zozan) factory for dairy, cheese and vegetable oil plant.

In conclusion, Luqman Ahmi, stressed the need for citizens to rely on productive and economic activities and on local projects to overcome the economic crisis once.
