Health achievements and service projects achieved by AANES during 2021

In this Dossier, we will touch upon AANES’ projects at all levels, service, health, economic and agriculture.

During 2021, the Local Administration Body and municipalities in NE, Syria implemented important projects to support the infrastructure in the area, 280 projects had been established in order to rehabilitate the bridges, 585 projects also established, as well as 86 projects of gravel roads were asphalted, the most important of which is the Peace Road linked between Jazira and Euphrates region on 27 October, which is a vital artery linking all regions of NE, Syria with other areas.

The Local and Municipal Administration Body also established 394 water system extension and maintenance projects, as well as 14 water plant rehabilitation projects.

On January 14^th, at a cost of one and a half million dollars, the Autonomous Administration began a project to retrieve Euphrates water as an alternative emergency solution to the Allouk water station that provides water of Hasakah city, which is controlled by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries, this was done according to several stages through the rehabilitation and maintenance of the 47 station and the Al-Alwa station, the rehabilitation and maintenance of the lines, in addition to the project of providing the stations with electric power, thus securing 20% of the water needs of the city of Hasakah.

On January 19^th, the People’s Municipality in the Layez area of the town of Gharanij in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor began the construction of a water station that would provide 120,000 people, the project included the works of the first phase of building bases, walls, rooms and the fence of the station, and it entered service on the 7th of February.

On May 26^th, the Local Administration and Municipal Body of Jazira region rehabilitation of 3 waste dump projects, the most important of Jazira region, which was the opening of a first-ever project in Jazira region to collect waste east of Qamishlo city.

On June 3^rd, the Hajin Water Unit began constructing a new water line that provides about 6,000 people, in 5 neighborhoods in the town of Hajin, in addition to its hospital and its surroundings. On the same date, the Municipalities and Services Authority launched a project to rehabilitate the Al-Baghuz water station after it was out of service, after the Turkish occupation state blocked the Euphrates River and its effects and repercussions on the people intensified, the station serves about 45,000 people, who live in several neighborhoods, including "Sheikh Hamad neighborhood, Al Daoud neighborhood, Al Mataloun neighborhood, Al Khanafra neighborhood, Al Alaween neighborhood, Al Shehradah neighborhood and Al Shihabat neighborhood."

On the 11th of August, the water station of al-Safafna entered service; to provided water to 15,000 people, in 3 neighborhoods of the eastern countryside of Deir-ez-Zor.

On August 23^rd, the General Directorate of Water established five waterin takes in the southern region of Hasakah, along the Euphrates water line, starting from Markada to Arishah, in response to the desire of the people and to meet their water needs. After the Turkish occupation state cut off the water of the Allouk station that provides Hasakah city with water.

On September 15^th, the municipalities of Deir ez-Zor Civil Council began the work of a drinking water purification plant project in the town of Al-Kashkiyah in the eastern countryside, which occupies an area of ​​1,200 square meters on the bank of the Euphrates River. It is the second station in the town, serving about 30,000 people.

On November 7^th, the Autonomous Administration in Jazira region began the rehabilitation of two water stations, south of the city of Hasaka, and it is expected that the two stations will enter service in February next year, in response to the needs and requirements of the people in the region. It is scheduled to meet the needs of 160,000 people, within 350 villages and towns of Shaddadi district and Markada from these two stations, according to those in charge of the project and the People's Municipality in Shaddadi district.

The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria has also planted 271,605 forest trees in various areas of the Autonomous Administration, opening and rehabilitating 178 gardens, and has established and equipped 10 environmental nurseries, and equipped them with greenhouses that include 78,510 plants.

In Health Sector

Among the most important works implemented by AANES at health sector; several hospitals had been rehabilitated. On May 7^th, the Al-Furat General Hospital in the town of Abo Hamam, which belongs to the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which was partially destroyed during the occupation of ISIS mercenaries, entered the service, after the completion of rehabilitation work, and it is considered the general hospital. The first in the Eastern Line, where it provides its services to more than (600) thousand people.

In addition to securing oxygen generating stations in all autonomous and civil administrations, on February 9, the Health Committee of the Deir-ez-Zor Civil Council began operating a medical oxygen plant in the “Seven Kilo” area, located in the western countryside of Deir-ez-Zor with a production capacity of ninety oxygen cylinders per day.

As a step to enhance ways to prevent the outbreak of COVID 19 and treat infected people, the Health Body opened on December 20, 2020, a center called Gean COVID 19 Centre; for the treatment of people infected with the COVID 19, it entered service on February 18^th of this year.

On the 28th of February, and to reduce the burden of examinations and medical costs on the people, civil society institutions opened the people’s clinics, and it is the first project of its kind in the city of Qamishlo, and it includes ten departments.

On the 3rd of April, Kobani Hospital, with the support of the Health Body in the Euphrates Region, opened the Cardiac Catheterization Operations Department, and on the morning of the 8th of April, the first catheterization operation was performed in the hospital for a 54-year-old woman and it was successfully completed.

In order to provide the necessary health care for newborns, the Health Body opened on July 4^th, the Pediatric Incubators Department in the People’s Hospital in Amuda District. The department treats newborns free of charge, and saves the high costs and distances that parents had to travel to transport their children to hospitals in nearby cities.

In addition to the Heart and Eye Hospital, which opened two years ago, on the 10th of July, the first beating heart surgery, which is the first of its kind in the north and east of Syria.

The Health Body has also provided an x-ray machine and medical supplies to some hospitals. On the 13th of July, Raqqa National Hospital added two sections to its departments, namely the central laboratory and radiology with CT scan device.

On the 2nd of November, the Health Body of Afrin opened a medical institute (the Health Institute) in al-Shahba canton, and the first health institute in the city of Hasakah on the 25th of October, after accepting 35 students.

In the Education and Pedagogy sector

On January 20^th, about 900,000 students in schools in NE, Syria took the first semester exams for the academic year 2020-2021, in 4,092 schools.

On July 28^th, the Education Body of the Autonomous Administration in the Jazira region introduced new secondary schools to the teaching field, such as agriculture, industry and commerce.

On August 5^th, Kobani University opened 7 new departments; to accommodate the largest number of students this year, most notably; The 4-year College of Arabic Literature, the 2-year Institute of Educational Sciences, which includes geography, a class teacher, and English literature, in addition to the Institute of Legal and Administrative Sciences, and the Technical Institute consisting of two branches of electricity and mechanics, which will be opened in Rojava Dam (Tishreen) and students will study over there.

The medical institute, which in the past contained a medical laboratory, will also be developed, but now the departments of anesthesia and nursing have been added to it, and in the first year it will be joint with the technical institute, while in the second year the student will switch to the specialty.

On September 17^th, the Democratic Society Training and Education Committee inaugurated the first school that teaches the Autonomous Administration curriculum, for 600 male and female students, while registration continues for the Arab and Kurdish components.

On the 28th of October, Kobani University graduated the first batch of 640 students who have joined its classes since its opening in 2017.

On October 31^st, Rojava University graduated 581 of its students, who graduated in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.

On November 27^th, the Coordinator of Universities in North and East Syria inaugurated Al Sharq University in Raqqa.

The Department of Hydrocarbons distributed 1,052,884,062 liters of fuel for transport services and offices, industry and agriculture, which is equivalent to 4,785,836 barrels of fuel. It also distributed 19,974 barrels to 10,271 families of a martyr. 20,845 barrels of diesel were distributed free of charge to schools, and 3,991,656 gas cylinders were distributed.

Also, heating oil was distributed during the winter season to all families at a rate of 440 liters per family.

In the field of economy and agriculture

On October 8^th, 2020, the Economy Committee of the Civil Council of Raqqa completed the work of the corn dryer project, with a capacity of 45 tons per hour, at a cost of 310,000 US dollars, and on January 16, the corn dryer was about to finish drying the crops of Raqqa farmers, After the dried quantity reached about 20 thousand tons so far, 1,170 receipts were delivered to farmers, and they were transferred to the Agricultural Society Development Company in Raqqa. The daily capacity of the dryer ranged from 600 to 700 tons per day.

On January 26^th, the Economic Body of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria opened the first plant for vegetable oil under the supervision of the Al-Hassan Company, at a cost of $6 million in the name of Golden Rose, and the daily production capacity will be about 300 tons of oil.

On June 14^th, Deir-ez-Zor Civil Council opened the first salt factory in the “Seven Kilo” area in Deir-ez-Zor countryside, which produces about 8 tons of salt per day and entered service on April 1, and is considered the first of its kind, with the aim of achieving self-sufficiency. Its area is estimated at about 4 dunums, and the number of its staff reaches 20 workers.

On October 19^th, members of the General Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria approved a draft law for the protection and investment of agricultural lands, in addition to establishing penalties for those who violate this law.

On November 15^th, after more than three years of resistance in al-Shahba canton, and despite the difficult conditions in the face of the summer heat and the harsh winter cold, and amid the inaction of international organizations concerned with the conditions of the IDPs, and in order to eliminate the phenomenon of unemployment, provide labor and meet the needs of the region at all levels, a factory was opened for the manufacture of heaters in Al-Shahba canton.

The Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria has also increased the salaries of employees in the Autonomous Administration by a rate ranging between (108-150) %.
