Statistics: More than 500 children, women killed in 2021 in Syria

The SOHR's statistics monitored the number of women who have been affected since the beginning of 2021, as the killing of 182 women over the age of 18 on Syrian territory was documented, distributed as follows: 28 women in mines and explosive devices, 15 women by unidentified bullets, and 44 women ianvarious circumstances and methods, including "family and clan disputes and random bullets".

In addition, 45 female citizens were killed in shelling and bullets by Damascus government forces, 16 female citizens by ISIS mercenaries, 12 female citizens were killed in unknown circumstances, and a woman was killed under torture in one of the detention centers of the Damascus government, and 8 female citizens were killed in the explosion of booby-trapped vehicles.

 According to the observatory, 41,312 women remain imprisoned in the prisons of the Damascus government, while 20,315 women have been forcibly disappeared, since the beginning of the crisis in 2011, in serious violation of humanitarian law and international agreements and treaties signed by the Damascus government.

 Testimonies of female detainees in prisons say that they lived through the most difficult days of their lives, where they were subjected to beatings and all forms of violence, from physical torture to sexual assault, to psychological destruction, insults, and hearing all the obscene words, as well as enduring hunger, thirst, hard labor and the pain of rampant diseases.

 In a related context, the observatory’s statistics documented the killing of 359 children under the age of eighteen since the beginning of 2021, by various methods, including those who died during the bombing of the Turkish occupation or at the hands of the Turkish border guards “gendarmerie”, or by bombing by Damascus government forces, Russian bombing, or by ISIS mercenaries  ..etc.

 According to the observatory, these figures indicate the horror of the tragedy and the damage inflicted on the children of Syria and their future, after they were deprived of their right to life, due to poverty, war and conflicts that resulted in depriving them of all forms of care and a safe life.

 The deteriorating economic situation increased the accumulation of misery and suffering as a result of the conflict and the continuous sanctions by many parties, causing many to find themselves forced to enter the labor market at an early age under the lashes of exploitation and coercion.
