​​​​​​​AANES hands over 8 children of ISIS mercenaries to Russia

Today, a Russian delegation headed by the Commissioner for Children's Rights of the Russian Federation, Maria Lvova Belova, visited the Department of Foreign Relations of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, in the city of Qamishlo in the Jazira region.

The Russian delegation was received by the co-chair of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Autonomous Administration, Abdul Karim Omar, and the co-chair of the Department of Foreign Relations, Fanar al-Kait.

During a press conference, Abdul Karim Omar welcomed the Russian Federal President’s Commissioner for Children’s Rights, Maria Lvova, on her first visit to north and east Syria. He said: "During the meeting, we discussed many issues related to children's rights, as we put the Commissioner in the situation of the repercussions of the Syrian crisis on children, which caused millions of children in Syria to be deprived of education, and many of them died as a result of lack of medicines and malnutrition in the camps inside Syria and neighboring countries."

Omar confirmed that they also discussed the situation of children in displacement camps in the occupied areas by the Turkish occupation, the impact of closing the Tel Kocher Crossing, and the entry of relief and humanitarian aid on these children, in terms of education and health.

He continued: "We discussed the situation inside the camps such as Al-Hol and Roj Camp, and the failure of the international community to shoulder its responsibilities towards these children, and we emphasized that the radical solution to this issue is for each country to shoulder its responsibilities and to return its citizens, including children and women."

Omar pointed out that "the Autonomous Administration had previously handed over 225 ISIS children to Russia, and today it has handed over 8 other children."

The co-chair of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Autonomous Administration, Abdul Karim Omar, called on Russia to assume its responsibility towards the families of ISIS mercenaries, and indicated that "there are hundreds of children with their mothers in the camps, and the Autonomous Administration law does not allow children to be separated from their mothers."

In her turn, the Commissioner for Children's Rights of the Russian Federation, Maria Lvova, thanked the Autonomous Administration for its cooperation with the humanitarian file in handing over the children of ISIS mercenaries to their countries. She said, "A month and a half ago, I was appointed the Russian Federation President's Commissioner for Children's Rights, and it was very important for me to visit north and east Syria personally, to work together on the file of returning Russian children."

Maria explained: "We understand that the parents of these children have been greatly harmed through their terrorist acts in north and east Syria, but we believe that the children are not at fault and are not responsible for the actions of their parents, and based on this concept, we are returning the children to their homeland."

Maria was pleased with the continuation of this kind of cooperation between them and the Autonomous Administration, and said: "This humanitarian mission unites us."
