The concerned authorities in southern Kurdistan should meet students's demands

The Kurdistan Community Union called on the concerned authorities in southern Kurdistan to meet students demands who took to the streets for their legitimate rights.

The Kurdistan Community Training Committee issued a written statement regarding the ongoing student protests which reads:

the learning in the mother tongue is a legitimate right, also provision of requirements for such education is a legitimate one. We in the Education Committee of the Kurdistan Community Union, salute students's activities in South Kurdistan Universities who have been in the squares since November 21 for their legitimate rights, and have not given up their requests despite of all pressures and attacks. Our people in the south, like other parts of Kurdistan, have suffered from horrors of cultural, linguistic and physical genocide over hundreds of years, but they didn't capitulate and protected their culture and language. Accordingly, learning in the mother tongue is one of the most important acquisitions in Southern Kurdistan, which has been achieved by high costs and sacrifices, overcoming all obstacles in continuation of education of our children and youth, without turning field of education into conflict arena between parties. Since November 21 the Protests have continued in Rania, Koi, Halabja, Hewler, Qaleh Dez, Sulaymaniyah, Kifri, Sayed Sadiq, and many other places, to demand of academic allowance and to end inequality in services provided to non-partisan students. As well as Improving sanitary conditions in student accommodation. Instead of receiving these requests respectfully, our youth have been met with attacks and arrests. First of all, officials of southern government, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Finance face a "firm student uprising." where protests have been going on since November 21. And consider them democratic and legitimate demands, should be carried out. This means, at the same time, bearing the responsibilities that our people have entrusted to these ministries.

"They should be well aware that ignoring and marginalizing these protests cannot stop the Kurdish youth who are committed to the struggle legacy nor covering up the unjust measures".

So We call upon all the concerned institutions, which have given its votes to people, to use them for the benefit of the people and youth, and urgently meet the demands of our students . We remind once again that this is not a responsibility but a necessity."
