Leader’s Committee calls on human rights organizations to urgently visit Imrali Prison

Kurdistan Communities Union, (KCK) expressed its concern about the life and health of leader Ocalan, and called on the European Committee, CPT, human rights organizations and the Prison Committee of the Turkish Parliament to visit Imrali and share the results of the visit with the public opinion, and called on the Kurdish people and their friends to escalate the struggle and move against the isolation and torture regime in Imrali.

In this regard, today, the Leader's Committee issued a statement to the public, calling on international and human rights organizations to visit Imrali as soon as possible, after doubts were received about the life and health of the leader Abdullah Ocalan.

The statement was delivered before the Social Justice Council in the city of Qamishlo, by a member of the defense team for Mr. Abdullah Ocalan, Mahmoud Khalo, and stated:

Statement to public opinion and international and human rights organizations

"Since July 2011, the leader, Abdullah Ocalan, has been subjected to severe isolation, as he cannot meet with his lawyer and his family, and illegal penalties are imposed against him, with flimsy pretexts to obstruct these meetings. These procedures and penalties, according to international and humanitarian laws, are crimes that require the Turkish state to be held accountable for These are violations of law and justice."

The statement added: "The Turkish state aims with this isolation, abstraction and inhumane sanctions against the leader Abdullah Ocalan in Imrali, to undermine the will of the Kurdish people, and to eliminate initiatives aimed at democratizing Turkey and the Middle East."

The statement pointed out that "this situation requires all freedom and democracy fighters, especially lawyers and jurists, to raise their voices against the Imrali regime and other prisons, and the European Committee and the Committee against Torture in Prisons are also responsible for the flagrant Turkish violations of the law."

The statement called on all Turkish and international human rights and human rights organizations, committees and institutions to bear their responsibilities towards this situation, break the isolation, and open the door for meetings to his lawyer and his family. And the meetings are for public opinion, because there are doubts about the life and health of Leader Ocalan among the Kurdish people and his family.”
