Izzat Oskali called on the people of the region to defend their land and said, "The true martyr is the one who defends this land and is martyred on its soil, not the one who emigrates and drowns in the seas, leaving behind a bleeding homeland and the souls of martyrs who were martyred so that we may live in peace and live with dignity, and do not accept charity from anyone.
