Suleiman Jaafar blames Iraqi government for Turkey targeting Shengal center

On Monday, a Turkish occupation army's aircraft targeted the center of Shengal city which led to the martyrdom of Commander of the Shengal Protection Units, Saeed Hassen, and fighters who were accompanying him, in addition to the wounding of three civilians.

The Turkish occupation targeting of Shengal city raised angry reactions in the popular circles, in the four parts of Kurdistan, coinciding with the third anniversary of the martyrdom of the Yazidi Community Coordination's Member, Mam Zaki Shengali.

In this context, Member of the Yazidi Union of Syria, Suleiman Jaafar, spoke to ANHA about the policies of the Turkish occupation state in Southern Kurdistan, denouncing the silence of the Iraqi government on the violations practiced by Turkey within the Iraqi territories.

In his speech, Jaafar confirmed that targeting the Shengal Protection Units' Commander Saeed Hassen and his companions was a pre-planned operation that coincided with the Yazidi community's recall of the Kojo massacre and Martyr Mam Zaki Shangali.

Jaafar drew attention to the visit of the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi to Shengal district, and said, "The Turkish plane traveled hundreds of kilometers to target Shengal district, which made doubts revolve in our imaginations about that." Jaafar called on the Iraqi government to announce its position regarding the Turkish state's violation of Iraqi sovereignty.

Jaafar does not rule out the connection of Al-Kazemi in the attack, or that they were aware before the targeting of the old market in Shengal district.

Jaafar recalled the massacre committed by ISIS mercenaries in 2014 against the Yazidi community in Shengal when the Iraqi army and the PDK Peshmerga fled in the face of ISIS mercenaries' strikes, and the path was open, safe for ISIS mercenaries and massacres against Yazidis.

Jaafar added that Martyr Saeed Hassen joined the first ranks of the fighting during the firman on Shengal to block the way in front of the massacres against Yazidis, and he worked wholeheartedly for the cause of his people and was one of the exceptional personalities.

Jaafar recalled the martyr Saeed Hassen and said, "He has been one of my close friends since 2004, noting that the Turkish state always seeks to target prominent figures in the Yazidi community and to turn August into the month of firmans against Yazidis."

Jaafar also touched on the policies of the Turkish state which is trying to undermine the Kurdish people in the character of the Yazidi community which knows the bloody history of the Ottoman Empire well.

He continued his speech, saying, "Every firman the Yazidi community is exposed to, people become more organized and draw strength from their martyrs."

At the conclusion of his speech, Member of the Yazidi Union of Syria, Suleiman Jaafar, called on international organizations and the international community to clarify their position, denounce the crimes and violations of the Turkish occupation state against the Yazidi community, hold Turkey accountable for its crimes and expel it from Iraqi and Syrian lands.
