Hamdan Al-Abed: extending aid entry through Bab Al-Hawa crossing does not serve Syrians

Hamdan al-Abed stressed that opening Bab al-Hawa crossing and the continued closure of the Tal Koçer crossing are evidence of international duplicity and understandings between Turkey, Russia and America. He added, "The Syrians did not and will not benefit from Bab al-Hawa crossing because it is under the control of mercenary groups backed by Turkey."

On Friday, the UN Security Council extended the mechanism for aid entry to Syria through the Bab al-Hawa crossing, which is controlled by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, which is listed on the international terrorism list), while extending the closure of the Tal Koçer / al-Yarubiyah crossing, after capitulating United Nations to Russian pressure.

This resolution negatively reflected on the 5 million Syrians living in the regions of North and East Syria, which contain hundreds of thousands of displaced people in the camps, not to mention hundreds of thousands of ISIS mercenaries and their families that the Autonomous Administration takes care of.

In this regard, the deputy co-chair of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration in Northern and Eastern Syria, Hamdan al-Abed, explained that there is a double standard on the political side on the part of America, and stressed that it "made concessions in favor of Russia by opening the Bab al-Hawa crossing, and these concessions are behind agreements and personal interests for America."

He pointed out, "We note that in Syria there was not only the presence of Russia and America, but also the European Union, Turkey, Iran and China, but the division of the two camps is the Russian-Iranian-Chinese camp and the swinging Turkish camp, and the second camp is America and the International Coalition, and each works according to different plans and strategies to secure their personal interests."

5 million Syrians are deprived of aid

Al-Abed stressed that the continued closure of the Tal Koçer crossing threatens the lives of millions of people and displaced people in the regions of North and East Syria, a resolution that has nothing to do with humanity.

He continued, "What we saw on the issue of Tal Koçer crossing is that America warned Russia and China against using their veto right to open the crossing because it serves more than 5 million people, and it is a humanitarian crossing, but there is double standards in politics and international understandings in this regard."

He added, "America made many concessions to Russia and opened Bab al-Hawa crossing, and this portends the existence of a deal between the two countries at the expense of the people of Syria in general and North and East Syria in particular."

Resolution to open Bab al-Hawa crossing is politicized

Al-Abed indicated that the resolution to open Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Turkey is politicized, and will lead to double suffering for the Syrian people, as it is under the control of the Turkish occupation and mercenary groups.

He wondered about the issue of closing Tal Koçer crossing and opening the Bab al-Hawa crossing, especially since there are groups classified as terrorist globally, such as the "Al-Nusra Front" and other mercenary groups supported by Turkey.

Al-Abed stressed that the opening of the Bab al-Hawa crossing came in agreement between Russia and Turkey to put pressure on the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria in order to make concessions in their favor.

He stated, "The Russian minister recently stated that the Damascus government and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria should have a meeting and dialogue between them," adding: "We have been ready since 2018, and we had said that the Syrian crisis can only be resolved through Syrian-Syrian dialogue, but the Damascus government did not take it seriously, and we were ready and we had formed committees for this dialogue."

Al-Abed concluded his speech by saying, "The United Nations must reconsider its decision and open the Tal Koçer crossing to ensure that aid reaches the Syrians," doubting its arrival through Bab al-Hawa crossing, which is controlled by mercenary groups backed by Turkey, "which did not and would not want good for the Syrian people."

The Autonomous Administration in Northern and Eastern Syria has made many calls to open the crossings in its areas to ensure safe aid reaches Syrians and displaced people, but so far it has not received a response, which weighs heavily on the administration.
