​​​​​​​Kongra Star: Martyr Zilan opened pathway for feminist freedom

On June 30, 1996, martyr Zilan "Zeinab Kanaji" carried out a self-sacrifice operation for the first time in the Kurdistan Liberation Movement's history at one of the Turkish occupation army's centers in Dersim in Northern Kurdistan, in response to the hostile policies that targeted Abdullah Ocalan and the assassination attempt carried out by Turkish intelligence against him in the Syrian capital, Damascus.

On this the Kongra Star Coordination issued a statement reads:

"Martyr Zilan “Zeinab Kanaji” was born in Malatya in 1972 and a graduate of “Inonu University” Department of Psychology, joined the ranks of the Kurdistan Liberation Movement of her own free will, and was one of it's the leaders, and in 1996 our movement, our leadership and our people faced grave dangers, while Martyr Zilan realized the danger before everyone and blocked it.

Under the difficult circumstances of 1996, comrade Zilan left her imprint in the history of the movement's struggle through her self-sacrifice operation, as she carried out this operation in order to draw attention to the dangers to which the leader, our movement and our people were exposed, and through this operation, a new stage began in the struggle for the liberation of Kurdistan and the struggle for women’s freedom, and on this occasion once again we remember all martyrs of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement."

Comrade Zilan carried out a commando operation for the first time in the history of the Kurdistan Liberation Movement at one of the centers of the Turkish enemy on June 30, in Dersim.

Martyr Zilan wrote her letter to the international leader Abdullah Ocalan, people, and public, revolutionary opinion before carrying out her operation.

In her letter she said, "My connection, advocacy, and clinging to life is an exemplary connection, so I want to own a great process and a life of great meaning. The ongoing national liberation struggle under the leadership of Leader Abdullah Ocalan will reach victory soon, and my oppressed people will take their rightful place within the human family. On this basis, I want to show my solidarity and my connection with the leader, the martyrs of Kurdistan, all the Guerrilla Forces, the front, the comrades in prisons, the Kurdish people and all humanity, and I undertake that I will work to be worthy of their representation."

"Struggler Zilan's operation gave a message to the enemies of the Kurdish people that Kurds do not surrender to conspiracies and attacks, and that the Kurdish women have proven to the whole world that they are able to stand against any threat to the existence of the Kurdish people."

"We call on our women, our youth, our people and our friends to rally and support the resistance of our heroic fighters in the mountains of freedom, and to escalate the struggle for the Leader Abdullah Ocalan's freedom for a certain victory."
