French sociologist: Rojava is a hope for change

The French sociologist Eric Vasin delivers an online lecture to dozens of Kobane University students, in which he addressed democratic politics, minorities, gender and race.

The University of Kobane continues to host Western and international scholars, academics and scholars to give lectures to its students, as the city of Kobane witnessed this afternoon the French sociologist Eric Vasin giving a lecture, the second after the lecture given by the Slovenian philosopher Slavoy Zizek last month.

He said at the beginning of his speech, that he is happy and proud to deliver this lecture, and stressed that the matter is important to him, and expressed his hope that he can visit the region and meet with the people in it.

In the context of his speech, he touched on Rojava, and said, "Rojava is a political area that gives hope. Rojava is a hope for change, and a symbol of change, and this matter is not only from a political point of view but from an academic and scientific point of view."

He added, "What attracts my attention in Rojava is that there are people who are living experiences, and I believe that we need this. I am trying to understand what is happening in Rojava and bring that to France."

He expressed his hope that he would be able to communicate with those inside, and stressed that he believed that they would be able to achieve mutual benefit.

Vasin also expressed his support for the students of Kobane, and said, "I also hope that I can benefit from you."

In the context of his discussion of minorities, which is one of the topics of the lecture, Eric Vasin said, "Minorities are not only in the number, but at the same time minorities are those who have been deprived of power or see them as power at low levels, and exercise their right to racism."

He said that there are political, religious, ethnic, and even sexual minorities.

He spoke about minorities and immigrants in the West, especially in France, in addition to the issue of racial discrimination on the basis of color, or discrimination between men and women, as well as gender and society.

In the context of his lecture, the French sociologist said, "I believe that we live in a time when everything is against the truth. In recent years we have seen that people who do not like the truth belittle it and mock it, but we believe in the truth and see it as an urgent necessity."
