The Turkish occupation state has recently rushed to build settlement complexes with the support and funding of Gulf and European societies in the areas it occupies, with the aim of changing the demographics and obliterating the identity of the region.

Among the most prominent steps taken by the occupation during its air aggression on the areas adjacent to the border strip in northern Syria was the destruction of entire neighborhoods, while it continued to establish military bases on that destroyed geographical area, instead of compensating the affected.

Occupation of Afrin came in conjunction with the Damascus government's control of Eastern Ghouta!

With Russian green light and the Damascus governments' complicity, the Turkish occupation army, with the participation of dozens of Syrian mercenary groups, launched its aggression against Afrin in early 2018, coinciding with that, columns of Damascus government forces were heading towards Damascus countryside with Russian support to liberate Eastern Ghouta from mercenary groups.

While Russia was preparing, by agreement with the Turkish occupation, to transfer the mercenaries with their families to Afrin canton to be replaced with its original inhabitants.

Since then, Turkey has continued to work on the systematic demographic change policy in the occupied city of Afrin, in conjunction with looting, robbery and kidnapping, in addition to the fabrication of accusations against civilians.

Turkey also targeted the educational reality, and imposed the Turkish language in schools, and this came with the issuance of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan a decision to open colleges and universities in the occupied areas.

The step of Erdogan's decision to open universities and colleges in the occupied territories is considered acquiring more sovereignty over the Syrian lands, the intention of a long-term Turkish occupation in northern Syria, annexing it to Turkish lands.

Features spread in the northern areas of Syria, making them more like Turkish cities

The Turkish occupation state transformed the public appearances that indicate the Syrian north in the Syrian cities into appearances similar to those in Turkish cities, by raising the Turkish flag and pictures of Erdogan over all the institutions and departments of the mercenaries, and it deliberately changed the names of streets, squares and cities to Turkish names.

In addition to all this, chaos, security chaos and instability prevail in the areas occupied by Turkey, not to mention the bombings that disturb the lives of civilians and expose them to danger.

Turkey has begun settlement operations in all of northern Syria, with the aim of changing the demographics of the region, especially in Afrin city.

It is reported that more than 125 Kurdish villages are being pressured by Turkey in northern Syria, from Jarablus to Azaz.

2013 was the first steps of the Turkish occupation towards the settlement projects in Syria

In a dangerous step of its kind, the Turkish occupation state established an association called "Al-Ataa Association" in early 2013, which undertook to build settlement associations in northern Syria, reaching areas in Idlib governorate.

The idea of settlement complexes was launched at the beginning of 2014, with housing units to develop into settlement complexes in order to settle families from other regions in Syria.

According to the local councils affiliated with the mercenaries, the number of settlement units in Jarablus during the year 2021 is supposed to reach 3,500 housing units, in addition to the establishment of a settlement complex of 400 housing units in Azaz city, and 282 other units in Jarablus.

Establishing dozens of settlements in the villages of the occupied Afrin canton

In the occupied Afrin canton, the Turkish occupation resorted to the Qatari, Kuwaiti and European Brotherhood associations to build settlement complexes, under humanitarian names.

Its first steps were on November 15, 2018 to establish a settlement complex in the east of the occupied city of Afrin.

"Al-Bayan" Qatari Association took care of the establishment of a settlement complex in the village of Afraza in Mobata district in the occupied countryside of Afrin.

In Hajj Hasano village of Janders district, on April 2 of this year, the implementation of a project to build 247 units started.

In a move to establish a Turkmen belt in the occupied Afrin canton, the Turkish occupation settled the Turkmen families along the border strip extending from Shera to Bulbul and from Janders to Rajo district, and established dozens of settlement complexes.

Furthermore, settlements were built in (Mohammadiyah village and Deir Ballout in Janders district, in addition to establishing settlement units on the archaeological hill of Janders district, and next to Yalanquz village, Jalameh village, Diwan Tahtani village, Qulkah village, and Iska village).

According to the Human Rights Organization Afrin - Syria, 7,500 Palestinian families have sought refuge in the occupied areas in northern Syria, and only 500 families have fled to occupied Afrin.

According to private sources in occupied Afrin, the Turkish Red Crescent, in cooperation with Hatay governor, is working to establish hundreds of housing units in Janders district.

In the context of demographic change, the Turkish occupation is working to erase and obliterate the culture of the Yazidi villages in the occupied Afrin canton, and separate Afrin city from the rest of the other Syrian regions.

Regarding this, the citizen from the occupied city of Al-Bab, Hussein Wello, told Hawar news agency that the entry of the Turkish occupation army in 2016 into northern Syria was to deduct parts of the Syrian lands and annex them to Turkey.

Wello noted that since the occupation forces entered northern Syria, they have been following the policy of Turkification and demographic change in those areas.

He stressed that according to their communication with Kurdish citizens in the region, there is pressure on the Kurds in the villages by the Turkish intelligence to be included in Turkmen parties.

The citizen Hussein Wello concluded his speech by appealing to international and human rights organizations to immediately intervene to put an end to the crimes of the Turkish occupation in the occupied areas.

For his part, the Official Spokesperson for the Human Rights Organization Afrin-Syria Ibrahim Sheikho said that the file of demographic change and settlement building is the most dangerous file on Syrian territories at the present time.

Sheikho explained that the Turkish occupation authorities have resettled more than 4,000 citizens from most of the Syrian regions in the occupied Afrin canton in place of the indigenous people who were forcibly displaced from their homes.
