Kobane.. withholding water from 83 villages; pollution threatens millions of lives

The Water Directorate in Kobani canton has warned of a real disaster, due to unpleasant smells from the Euphrates River in recent days, as shells, clams and algae accumulate and form swamps, and the people of Kobani face thirst and dangerous diseases.

This came in a statement by the administrator in the Water Directorate in Kobani canton, Fahd Muhammad, to our agency, when the regions of North and East Syria are facing a catastrophic danger in terms of drinking water and electrical energy that has become non-existent, as a result of the Turkish occupation state lowering the water level of the Euphrates River since January 27.

Fahd Muhammad said, "The results of lowering the water level are looming on the horizon, and we are facing a catastrophe that the people will face within days, as unpleasant odors are emitted in some parts of the river's water, not to mention shells and shellfish and the algae coming to the surface of the river, which will cause many diseases such as cholera ".

"Most of our wells, and even the reserve wells that we relied upon when necessary, are out of service, and the river's water has reached its lowest levels, and so far the water has been cut off from 83 villages in Kobani canton, amid the silence of the international community," he said.

Muhammad warned that, in the next few days, the city of Kobani will face the fate of the villages from which the water has been cut off, because the district no longer has many solutions, and the situation is worsening more and more. We are not the only ones facing the problem of pollution in drinking water, but there are many areas that will be affected by this reduction. "

The administrator in Kobani district, Fahd Muhammad, appealed to the people to "preserve the remaining water, and also to rely on themselves, not on the international silence, which has become a partner with the occupation state in imposing thirst on them."

Earlier, the Dams Administration in Tishreen Dam warned that the people are facing a real disaster, because lowering the water level, especially in the summer, will cause an increase in diseases and pandemics, as polluted water is the most means of transmitting these diseases, and it is known that most of the population depends on the river directly in drinking water without filtering stations.
