Kurdistan Green Party demands Iraqi government to respect Şengal people's will

The Kurdistan Green Party called on the Iraqi state to "take into account the will of Şengal people, and not to be drawn into the plans of the forces hostile to Şengal people and their Autonomous Administration," and called on the international community to support the Autonomous Administration of Şengal people "because it is the only way to protect the people of the Yazidi religion from killing, extermination, displacement, and captivity."

This came through a written statement issued by the Kurdistan Green Party commenting on the Iraqi army’s attempts to enter Şengal without its people's will, and the text of the statement included:

"The Iraqi forces assigned to protect the province of Mosul left the mission of protecting it, in June 2014, and fled in the face of the advance of the terrorist organization ISIS, as did the Kurdistan Democratic's Peshmerga which were entrusted with protecting Şengal, on August 3^rd of the same year.

The People's Protection Units (YPG) and the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) protected the people of Şengal from extermination by opening a humanitarian corridor, linking Şengal with Rojava Kurdistan, and after its liberation from ISIS by the People's Defense Forces (Guerrilla) and the Şengal Resistance Forces, an autonomous administration was established for Şengal in order to ensure the protection of its areas in the face of the dangers facing them. However, although the Iraqi constitution allows building such administrations based on the desire of their residents, the Iraqi regime refused to do so, as it, in agreement with the Kurdistan Democratic Party, signed an agreement on October 9, 2020 against the will of Şengal people, without taking their will into consideration despite that these two parties failed to protect the people of Şengal from killing, displacement, extermination and captivity in the summer of 2014.

We demand the Iraqi state to take into account the will of Şengal people, and not to be drawn into the plans of the forces that are hostile to the people of Şengal and their Autonomous Administration which has proven its effectiveness in protecting its residents.

We also condemn any action aimed at harming this Administration by any party.

We call on the international community to support the Autonomous Administration for the people of Şengal because it is the only way to protect the people of the Yazidi religion from killing, extermination, displacement and captivity."
