PYD calls on Iraq to the respect Shengal will

Yesterday Iraqi Forces tried to storm the Gir Zerk village in Shengal that was met with popular rejection.

In this context PYD's General Council issued a statement in rejection of the policies adopted by Baghdad towards Shengal

'' time and again the Baghdad Government, supported by regional powers, tries to impose undemocratic policies that run against the will of our people in Shengal that was inflicted with calamities and massacres at the hands of terrorist powers to be annihilated from it’s ancestral lands.  

On Tuesday, April 20^th, Iraqi authorities tried to enter the Shengal village of Gir Zerk to impose a new de facto reality against the will, freedom and aspiration of our people though Shengal Protection Units and Ezidxan Asayish forces that stood up to most terrorist organizations(ISIS) are present at a time the Iraqi Army was retreating and Iraqi cities fell one after another in a very short period of time.

We reject such policies that try to subvert the will of our Shengal people considering that as an extension to a planned plot hatched by regional countries trying to annihilate the Kurdish people and to repress it's identity and presence, assuring our support to our people in Shengal with utmost available and legitimate capabilities, viewing the Shengal Protection Units as the sole body that gives protection to our people calling on the Iraqi State to adopt dialogue with our Shengal people and to respect it's will, freedom, and well as legitimate political and military representation''.
