Yazidis: Hewlêr-Baghdad agreement aims to repeat Şengal massacres

Yazidi citizens in the Ad-Darbasiyah sub-district denounced the Hewlêr - Baghdad agreement, and affirmed that it was a repeat of the massacres in Şengal in 2014, stating that this agreement is a pressure card on northern and eastern Syria as well.

On October 9, 2020, the federal government in Baghdad and the Kurdistan Regional Government reached an agreement on controlling Şengal, which both sides described as "historic."

The agreement was concluded without taking into account the will of its people, who were massacred by ISIS mercenaries against them in 2014 in front of the eyes of the Iraqi authorities and the Peshmerga forces who fled the area and left them facing their fate alone.

In addition, shortly after the Hewlêr-Baghdad agreement, the Iraqi government threatened to invade Şengal district, and Asayiş Izîdixan was given until the first of April to get out of it.

But the people of Şengal rejected the threats of the Iraqi government, and stressed that they have no way but to resist, to prevent the recurrence of new massacres.

In this context, the Yezîdis of NE Syria expressed their solidarity with the people of Şengal, and denounced the Hewlêr-Baghdad Agreement.

Adnan Kalo, a Yazidi citizen from Khirbet Ghazal village in Darbasiyah sub-district, said that "the agreement is related to some extent to the genocide that the Yazidis were subjected to in Şengal on August 3, 2014 by ISIS mercenaries." Confirming that the plot is still continuing in another way.

He added, "The Yazidis were massacred ISIS when the Peshmerga: the Kurdistan Democratic Party forces renounced their responsibility to defend them."

He continued, "In order to stop ISIS's expansion attempts in the region, the Popular Defense Forces (HPG)on one side and the People's Protection Units and Women on the other hand intervened, liberating a large part of them from ISIS, while efforts to liberate the kidnapped Yazîdi women are still continuing."

Kalo emphasized that the massacres against the Yazidis made them realize that they need to form forces to protect themselves from the attacks and plots against them, indicating that they have formed the Şengal Resistance Forces and the Şengal Women Protection Forces to be the main base of the Yazidi community.

'Agreement backed by a party supporting terrorism'

Kalo referred to Turkey's role in this agreement and said: "The Turkish state sponsor of terrorism and mercenaries supports this agreement." He referred to the secret visit by the head of Turkish intelligence, Hakan Fidan, to Iraq in mid-June 2020.

And explained that Turkey and through its proxies are attacking Şengal, under the pretext of fighting the PKK in the region.

'Pressure paper'

Kalo considered the agreement, which aims to control Şengal against the will of his people, that it means handing over Şengal to those who did not defend him.

He stressed that the parties that want to control Şengal want to use it as a pressure card on northeast Syria, and he said in this context: “Turkey’s endeavor to occupy Şengal aims to strike at the gains of the Rojava Revolution through the principle of brotherhood of peoples, the democratic nation and coexistence. Which the authoritarians see as a threat to their thrones. "

Adnan Kalo appealed to all international and human rights organizations, politicians and intellectuals to work to show the truth in this case.

'War of extermination'

For his part, the citizen Ismail Dalaf from the village of Khirbet Ghazal, confirmed that the Yazidi community had escaped the genocide massacres, but facing a fateful stage again, during which the Iraqi government and the KR are seeking, planning from Turkey, to restore restore the massacres committed by ISIS 2014, by stripping it of his self-administration and his military forces.

Dalaf stressed that the peoples demanding peace and freedom stand behind the administration in Şengal, and said: "The forces that handed over Şengal to ISIS mercenaries at the time would like to control it again, to repeat the massacre scenario again."

Dalaf denounced the attempts of the Iraqi authorities and the Kurdistan Regional Government to restore control of Şengal.

'Targeting the Kurds in the person of the Yazidis'

In turn, Abdul-Wahab Kalo expressed his dissatisfaction with the Iraqi authorities' attempts to control the area, noting that the people of Rojava stand by the citizens of Şengal.

Kalo directed his speech to the Iraqi authorities, saying: “If Iraq sees Şengal as part of the Iraqi lands, then where was it when the massacres of the Yazidi people in Şengal happened?

Abd al-Wahhab explained that the interests and personal agendas of the two governments stand behind these plans, which stem from their desire to eliminate the Yazidi people and inflict woes on them.

Abd al-Wahhab indicated that the Kurds are being targeted in the person of the Yazidis, who are the identity, religion and culture of the Kurdish people.
