A group of lawyers in the areas of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria are seeking to assume the task of defending the leader Abdullah Ocalan.

The Lawyers Union in Al-Jazira region had taken a decision to perform the responsibilities and tasks that fall upon it with regard to the mission of defending the leader Abdullah Ocalan. In the context, another group of lawyers in the areas of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria announced on January 26th their readiness to assume the task of defending the leader Abdullah Ocalan.

The Co-chair of the Lawyers Union in Al-Jazira region, Khadija Ibrahim, confirmed that in 2016 they announced the formation of a committee of lawyers comprising 35 lawyers, and at that time they declared their readiness to take over the task of defending the leader Abdullah Ocalan before the competent courts. She added,  “We launched a campaign to collect signatures in order to demand raising the intensive isolation on the leader Abdullah Ocalan. We directed many appeals to the competent authorities, including the European Court of Human Rights, and asked them to work to break the isolation imposed on the leader Abdullah Ocalan, but so far there are no programs on the agenda of this court related to the release of the leader Abdullah Ocalan.”

Khadija Ibrahim also indicated that they launched a new campaign with regard to ending the isolation of the leader Abdullah Ocalan and achieving his physical freedom, and on the details and program of the campaign, she said: “We will communicate with human rights organizations, courts, institutions with the aim of working to end the isolation of the leader Ocalan, and we have various activities with regard to ensuring the physical freedom of the leader Abdullah Ocalan.”

Khadija Ibrahim noted that after a group of lawyers announced that they would take over the task of defending the leader Abdullah Ocalan, they are now in the process of forming a new committee with the aim of organizing and continuing work to obtain the desired results.

There are many lawyers in various parts of the world who are in charge of defending the leader Abdullah Ocalan from a legal and human rights perspective, while the campaign "Freedom for Ocalan" is expanding day by day.

Recorder newspaper quoted the largest bar association in Britain as saying: "The time has come to end the inhuman isolation imposed on Abdullah Ocalan, and end the 22-year prison sentence.”

The Antonio Karamchi Folk School also sent a letter on January 11th to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and announced its joining the campaign launched by both the Kurdish Action Association in South Africa and the Federation of Trade Unions in South Africa.

IL Bene Commune Molise, an Italian cultural magazine which has announced joining the campaign, and it is a cultural magazine concerned with cultural affairs.

In the context, the Teachers Union in Sardinia announced that it had sent a message to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and announced that it would join the "Freedom for Ocalan" campaign.

In Egypt, a new campaign was launched on February 15 under the slogan "The Arab Initiative for Abdullah Ocalan's Freedom", which includes many Egyptian intellectuals.

The Association for Social Projects in Africa, which implements its projects in the countries of Congo, Ghana and Togo on the African continent, also sent a letter to the United Nations and announced its joining the campaign.
