With Russian mediation, Israel releases Syrian prisoner Dhiab Qahmuz

The Palestinian Prisoner Club announced today that according to Russia, Israel decided to release the Syrian prisoner Dhiab Qahmuz, according to an exchange deal between Syria and Israel and with Russian mediation.

The Prisoner Club said, "The occupation prisons administration summoned, this morning, the Syrian prisoner (Dhiab Qahmuz), who is from the village of Ghajar in the occupied Syrian Golan, and has been detained since 2016, and was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment, to inform him of the decision to release him to Syria, according to a deal that was concluded between Syria and the occupation, with Russian mediation."

Prisoner Club stated, "Until now, negotiations are underway over whether he will be transferred to Syria or to his village of Roma in the occupied Golan, where the prisoner insists that he be released to his village."

For its part, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that “with the passage of more than 15 days since the Russian forces began exhuming the cemetery of the Yarmouk camp, south of the capital, Damascus, it is assumed that the Russian side has reached conclusions about the remains of an Israeli soldier who was killed tens of years ago, and was buried there. According to the information, amid news that the remains that are being searched may be for the prominent Israeli agent, "Eli Cohen," who was killed in the 1960s, as a large number of graves were exhumed and DNA analyzes were conducted to reach the Russian target. "

Neither the Damascus government nor the Russian side has issued any statements in this regard yet.
