In support of its foreign policy, US agrees to sell military equipment to Egypt

This came in a statement by the US State Department, in which it said that it had taken a decision to approve a possible foreign military sale to the Egyptian government of "Block 2" tactical air structure (RAM) missiles and related equipment at an estimated cost of $ 197 million.

The US State Department explained that the Defense Security Cooperation Agency provided the required certification to inform Congress of this potential sale.

The US State Department stressed that "the proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping improve the security of a major non-NATO ally, which remains an important strategic partner in the Middle East."

"The proposed sale will support the Egyptian Navy's Fast Missile Craft vessels and provide greatly improved defense capabilities to defend Egyptian coastal areas and the entrances to the Suez Canal.”

Egypt will not find it difficult to absorb this equipment into its armed forces, because Egypt is already operating the RAM Block 1A missiles previously purchased.
