Israeli raids on Hamas in Gaza

The Israeli army spokesman told Arab media, Avichay Adraee, that Israel launched air strikes, on Monday, on workshops to dig tunnels belonging to Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Adraee pointed out that the Israeli strikes came in response to the firing of two rockets from the northern Gaza Strip towards Israel, without the alarms being activated.

And he added, the Israeli army looks seriously at every attempt to harm the security and sovereignty of the citizens of Israel, and Hamas bears responsibility for what is happening in or from the Gaza Strip.

This comes after the Palestinian Authority announced the holding of legislative and presidential general elections. It is widely believed that Hamas, which has controlled the Gaza Strip since 2007, tacitly agreed to hold them.

Late last month, a missile was launched from the Gaza Strip, without reaching Israeli territory, a week earlier, two rockets were launched from the Strip towards Ashkelon, where they were intercepted by the Iron Dome system.

Hamas has engaged in 3 devastating wars with Israel in the coastal strip, which is inhabited by about two million Palestinians.

A Palestinian security source told Agence France-Presse: "The occupation warplanes bombed an agricultural nursery and agricultural land in Rafah, south of the Strip, with three missiles. They also bombed an agricultural area in the town of al-Qarara in Khan Yunis, in the south of the Strip, causing significant material damage and no injuries were recorded.

No Palestinian party has claimed responsibility for the rocket fire from Gaza, which is controlled by Hamas.

A fragile truce prevails between Israel on the one hand and Hamas and the Palestinian factions on the other hand, which was reached after the 2014 war with the mediation of Egypt, but was breached by military confrontations many times.
