Turkish occupation commits crimes against thousands of Yazidis in Afrin

The union also discussed the history of the Yazidis in Afrin, during a lecture entitled “History of the Yazidi Kurds in Çiyayê Kurmênc and After the Turkish Occupation”.

The lecture that the Yazidi Union in Afrin canton organized today in the Akhin Walat Hall for Culture and Art in Fafin district in al-Shahba canton, where dozens of representatives of civil institutions and political parties attended.

The lecture began with a minute of silence in honor of the souls of the martyrs, then the co-chair the Yazidi Union in Afrin canton, Suad Hassou spoke about the Yezidis' adherence to their land and religion.

She referred to the holy places of Afrin Yazidi, which were subjected to grave violations by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries, as they encroached on the sanctity of religion, and at the end of her speech, Hasso renewed her denunciation of the attacks of the Turkish occupation state on Afrin.

Then the co-chair of the Yazidi Union in Afrin canton, Mustafa Nabo, delivered the lecture, which consisted of five main axes, namely (a historical overview of the Yazidi religion, the history of the Yazidis in Afrin, the Yazidis under the Damascus government, the Yazidis under the Autonomous Administration, the Yazidis after the Turkish occupation of Afrin).

Nabo began the first axis of the lecture with explaining the history of the Yazidis, she said, “Yazidism is an ancient religion rooted in the depths of human formation, and it is the first monotheistic religion that called for the worship of the Only One God. The available archaeological evidence in all of Kurdistan, in its four parts, the suspicion is discontinued with the certainty that Yazidism has historical roots connected to ancient civilizations such as Sumerian, Babylonian and Median.

He added, "This religion appeared in the Fertile Crescent, and the religion of the Kurdish ancestors is like the Sumerians and the Hurrians, and it is the official religion of the Median Empire."

Nabo asserted that the Baath government "deprived the Yazidis of their most basic rights, such as celebrating their festivals and practicing their religious rituals, and arresting many Yazidis while celebrating their religious occasions, until the religion entry in the Yazidi ID card was removed."

Nabo explained that "under the Autonomous Administration, and after the Rojava revolution, the Yazidis obtained their rights, and a center for the Yazidi Union was opened in 2013 in Afrin, and religious rituals were practiced with absolute freedom without infringing on the sanctity of religion."

Mustafa Nabo touched on the situation of the Yazidis after the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries' attacks on Afrin canton in 2018 and the occupation of the city, and said: The occupation attacked all religious shrines of the Yazidis, starting from Qastal Jindo and on to the rest of the Afrin villages.
