Saadiya said in a press statement on Tuesday: "They took my son as an hostage, put him in prison and described him as a terrorist, how can my son be a terrorist? My children are not terrorists, if he is a terrorist, how did he become a presidential candidate behind bars in the June 2018 elections? How did he become an MP?"

Regarding Erdogan's rejection of the European Court of Human Rights ruling on Demirtaş, she said: "Then, how will Turkey enter the European Union in this way?"

Erdogan attacked the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights regarding Demirtaş on December 22 that Demirtaş should be released immediately. She said: "Turkey's justification for his detention for more than four years in terrorism-related crimes was an excuse to limit the political debate."
