Abu Ali Al-Askari wrote on his Twitter account: “The region today is boiling on a hot tin, and that the possibility of a full-fledged war exists, which calls for restraint to waste the opportunity on the enemy, and not to be the initiating party,” referring to the escalating tension Between Tehran and Washington.

Al-Askari implicitly denied the responsibility of his forces for the recent missile attacks on the US embassy in Baghdad last week, calling for an end to such attacks.

He said, "Perhaps the bombing operations in recent days will only serve the interest of our enemy, Trump, and this should not be repeated," according to Sky News.

In an explicit threat to the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, the leader of the Iraqi Hezbollah wrote: "We call on Al-Kazemi not to test the patience of the resistance after today, as the time is very appropriate to cut his ears like the ears of a goat."

This escalation comes as the first anniversary of the killing of the Iranian general, Qassem Soleimani, and the deputy commander of the Popular Mobilization Forces, Abo Mahdi al-Muhandis, approaches in an American strike near Baghdad in early January.
