The permanent representatives of the 27 member states of the European Union agreed to extend economic sanctions against Russia for another six months, according to the Russian "TASS" agency.

The sanctions were supposed to expire on January 31, 2021, and today it was decided to extend them for another six months.

Before that, a source in the delegation of one of the European countries in the Council of the European Union had confirmed the decision.

The European Union and the United States imposed several packages of sanctions on Russia since mid-2014 against the backdrop of the Ukrainian crisis; for its part, Moscow responded in kind to Western sanctions, and imposed a ban on importing a range of food and agricultural goods from those countries.
