UN expects to help an additional 5 million Afghans next year

​​​​​​​The United Nations expected that it will have to assist five million additional Afghans in 2021, and this has been postponed to the increase in confrontations and population displacement in addition to the Corona crisis.

"We are moving from placing our request for support for about 11 million people for the year 2020, to estimates indicating that they will be 16 million next years," said UN Acting Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Ramesh Rajasingham.

He explained, during a press conference, the need is increasing, and obtaining funding (aid) is an urgent necessity, and he stated that the increase in needs comes from the Covid-19 crisis, the increasing confrontations and the displacement of the population.

Afghanistan has been witnessing, for decades, wars and unrest, which led to the collapse of its economy, almost completely destroyed its infrastructure, and many of its residents became refugees in other countries.
