​​​​​​​Activities in Qamishlo, Amuda to combat violence against women

As part of a series of activities that are held by women's organizations in north and east Syria, on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which falls on November 25, as part of the campaign "No to Extermination and Occupation, We Will Protect Women and Life," the Kongra Star organized a march today in Jagger Bazar town in Amuda district, in which the people of Jagger Bazar and the surrounding villages, members of Kongra Star, the Council and the Revolutionary Youth Union participated.

The marchers raised banners that read "Breaking Imrali regime is breaking the restrictions imposed on women," in addition to raising pictures of pioneering female martyrs who were martyred in north and east Syria at the hands of armed groups affiliated with the Turkish occupation; Zahra Berkel, Hevrin Khalaf, Mother Aqeedah, pictures of the leader Ocalan, in addition to flags of the Kongra Star and the Women's Protection Units (YPJ).

The march began in front of Jagger Bazar Council's building, amid chanting slogans that call for the achievement of women and the leader Abdullah Ocalan's freedom. Upon the arrival of the participants to Jagger Bazar Council, they stood for a minute of silence, followed by a speech delivered by the Administrator at the Kongra Star in the town, Sherin Daoud, who at the beginning of her speech denounced violence against women, and said: "Since thousands of years, there has been a genocide against women, but no one described killing women as a genocide against them."

Sherin Daoud added: "But here, we see that women succeed wherever they go thanks to their struggle and the leader Ocalan's thought and philosophy, as he granted women freedom, struggle, in addition to not being yielded to the reality imposed on them by society."

In the same context, the Kongra Star held a lecture today in Qamishlo city on violence practiced against women by society and its causes in the July 19^th Park in al-Arbewiyya neighborhood, with the participation of members of Kongra Star and a number of Guerrilla mothers.

  The lecture began with holding a minute of silence, followed by a lecture given by the Member of the Religion and Society Foundation Directorate, Amira al-Ezz, and the Member of Kongra Star Mezgin Hamo, where the lecture explained violence against women and its causes to the attendees, saying: "Violence against women has a very long history, most of the violence is primarily committed against women."

She also recounted the story of November 25^th Day, when three sisters were assassinated by authoritarian regimes, and that day has become a day for eliminating violence against women.

It was also indicated in the lecture: "There are many types of violence practiced against women, including physical and psychological, verbal harassment and social violence, to which women are exposed in all cities of the world."

The lecture explained: "The global reports published by the World Health Organization indicate that (35%) of women in all parts of the world are exposed to violence."
