The United Nations Population Fund has launched an appeal for $ 131.6 million to fund its work on the regional response to the Syrian crisis.

The United Nations Fund stated that the regional response program "includes several 11.7 million people in need of humanitarian aid inside Syria, in addition to about 5.6 million displaced persons and refugees in Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt."

The call also includes a request for urgent funding in order to meet the large needs arising from the Corona virus, according to the United Nations Fund.

Luay Shabana, the Regional Director of the United Nations Population Fund for the Arab States region, said in a statement issued today: “As the Syrian crisis approaches its tenth year, people in Syria and across the host societies in the region continue to face challenges that increase in severity over time.” "While some areas in Syria appear to have stabilized in recent years, the situation is still fragile in others. The rapidly deteriorating economic crisis and the wider implications of the epidemic have greatly exacerbated the situation, putting more lives at risk," he added.
