Ar'ar border crossing open after 30  years

Iraqi Body of the Border Crossing points announced that the border crossing at Ar'ar with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia would be open to trading for the first time since 1991, after relations between the two countries were ruptured after Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait.

On Wednesday, Iraqi Body of the Border Crossing points decided that the Ar'ar border crossing with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia would be open to commercial exchange between the two countries for the first time since 30 years, according to the French News Agency. 

Opening ceremonies were attended by Iraqi Minister for Interior, Othman Ghanimi, and the Saudi ambassador to Iraq, besides a number of governmental officials.  

Riyadh is being trying strongly to return the Iraqi markets that are being flooded with Turkish and Iranian products, after being industrially and agriculturally a productive country.  

Saudi Arabia cut ties with the Saddam Hussein regime in the aftermath of his invasion to Kuwait in 1990, that were resumed in 2017, after 15 years of the fall of Saddam Hussein regime and assuming power by a Pro- Iranian political group overwhelmingly Shi'ites.
