At least 8 people were killed in the aftermath of an airstrike by Afghan National Army forces on a Taliban gathering in Baghlan, according to the Afghan Defense Ministry in a statement on Monday.

The statement of the Ministry of Defense, which was published by the Afghan Khama Press Agency, stated that the air raid targeted Taliban militants who were aiming to attack the army positions.

9 Taliban militants were also killed in Zari district of Balkh province, according to the ministry in another statement.

The Ministry of Defense said that the Taliban had been killed in clashes and air strikes by security forces.

In a related context, Afghan TV channel "Taloo News" reported today, quoting local authorities, that at least 23 people were injured after a car bomb exploded in Kandahar province.

According to the channel, the explosion occurred late on Sunday evening, and indicated that 10 civilians were among the injured.

In the past few months, Taliban attacks on security force positions have intensified, and the violence has spread to many sensitive areas of the country.
