The current October 9th marks the anniversary of the Turkish occupation attack on the region    runs from Serêkaniyê to Girê Spi and their occupation.

In this three-part file, we are speaking about the dominant circumstances in Syria, Turkish use of mercenaries in the service of its ambitions in the region, and the biliteral deals between turkey and both of America and Russia so that it can occupy parts of Syrian territories in addition to the humanitarian situations following these attacks of the Turkish occupation that had a vital role in reviving the ISIS again posing threat on the region as whole.

Turkey and the Syrian crisis

Since the start of the Syrian crisis in March of 2011, Turkey intervened on the line of the events providing all kinds of logistic support to the armed groups within the Turkish territories, taking advantage of the Qatari and Saudi funds, and establishing camps along the border to encourage Syrians to flee and use them later as well.

Then Turkish prime minister Erdogan often said that they are going to pray in the Umyyad Mosque in the Syrian capital in an indication to controlling Syria.

The Turkish plot targeted Syria as whole along the border; occupied Gire Spi was a witness in October of the 2012 on the attacks of the Jabhat al-Nusrah and other pro-Turkey mercenary groups that entered the city across the Turkish border gate.

Serêkaniyê people shoulder to shoulder stand under the YPG leadership failed the Turkish plot for occupying the region following seven-month-long battles, where the city components managed to liberate from turkey mercenaries.

But it took the wind out of the Turkish sails. After the Direct Russian intervention for supporting the Syrian regime in September of 2015, leading to the mercenaries lose of territories successively. Aleppo was the landmark during the Syrian crisis.

The People Protection Units, YPG, forces of the Burkan Al-Furat Rage and some factions of the Free Army managed to defeat ISIS that had launched attacks on Kobane in September of 2014. This was the second defeat for Turkey in its plots. Many new other areas were liberated from ISIS such as Girê Spi / Tal Abyad by the YPG. With the establishment of the Syrian Democratic Forces, the SDF in October of 2015, ISIS started to fall apart, losing territories in coincidence of the defeat of pro-Turkey mercenaries across the Syrian geography.

On this ground, Turkey changed its approach of occupying Syria, after it had been calling for toppling the regime. It made alliances with Russia and Iran, the great supporters of the Syrian government, giving up the mercenaries-controlled areas in exchange of striking the Kurdish-led Autonomous Administration project in NE Syria.

Turkey occupied Jarablus, Al-Bab and Azaz in 2016, under the understandings of "Astana" alliance in early 2017, withdrawing its mercenaries from the various Syrian regions and heading to Idlib for its interests of occupying the majority-Kurdish populated areas along the border following the ethnic cleansing policy later as I did with the Iskenderun.

Turkish-Russian deals enabled it to occupy the Afrin canton on March 20, 2018, in exchange for handing in under opposition Ghouta, Damascus, Homs countryside and parts of Hama.

Plotting for carrying out attacks on Serêkaniyê and Girê Spi

After Turkey occupation of Afrin canton under the eyes and ears of the international community that turned a blind eye to war crimes and after the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) eliminated ISIS geographically in March 2019, Turkish threats on NE Syria startedonce again.

But NE Syria and the SDF sought to remove the arguments from the Turkish regime to cut the way on launching the attacks, as the Turkish regime claims of security threats on its borders, so the SDF demanded the mediation of the United States of America, Turkey's ally in NATO.

After three-day-long Turkish-American talks, a so-called Safe Zone was announced on August 7, 2019.

The SDF Commander-in-chief, Mazloum Abdi responded to the agreement during a meeting with US military officials and the SDF in Al-Hasakah, where he said that their forces will do everything, they can to make the US-Turkish security mechanism work.

The understanding stipulated the establishment of a security zone, a joint operations room and "American - Turkish" patrols in the area that runs from Serêkaniyê and Girê Spi at a depth of 5 to 9 km in some cases. Where it was supposed for the first joint patrol to be conducted on 8 of September 2019 in the northeastern countryside of the city of Girê Spi.

The SDF withdrawal from the border area was timed with the US-Turkish joint patrols start as it was confirmed by the Global Coalition, and the then newly formed local military councils that started to fill in trenches, earth mounds, and remove the military barricades, under the supervision of the American forces to dispel Turkey concerns.

At the time, the SDF officials also confirmed their withdrawal from the border area in a clear commitment to the two parties' security understandings and keep the region away from any Turkish attack.

The American withdrawal and the Turkish offensive

With the SDF ongoing attempts to dispel the Turkish "security concerns," US President Donald Trump announced on October 6 the withdrawal of US forces from Syria.

This decision came as a shock to the international coalition forces fighting ISIS, but Trump, who announced the decision after a phone call with Erdogan, wanted to return Turkey to the American embrace after Erdogan fell into the bosom of Moscow and bought S-400 air defense systems.

This decision was not met with welcome in the circles of the American decision, as a dispute escalated among the State Department, the White House and the Pentagon, preceded by the resignation of the US Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis and the US envoy to the Global Coalition against ISIS in Syria Brett McGurk, on 21 and 22 December 2018, in a row, after Trump stated his plans of withdrawal from Syria before defeating the ISIS in its last stronghold in Baghouz in March of 2019.

The former commander of US forces in the Middle East, General Joseph Votel, accused the US president of abandoning the SDF-led ally, which had a key role in fighting ISIS mercenaries.

The Turkish occupation launched a large-scale attack on October 9, 2019, taking advantage of the withdrawal announcement on separate areas of NE Syria, using the most sophisticated weapons and mercenaries, including the Al-Nusra Front and ISIS under the name "Syrian National Army" backed by the NATO member army, Turkey.

The Turkish attack was responded with heroic resistance from the SDF components of the Kurds, Arabs and Syriacs, for nine-day period when they fought shoulder to shoulder to protect their region, until the United States of America and Turkey reached a truce of 5 days on the 17th of October.

This was followed by a Russian-Turkish understanding following Turkey's Erdogan visit to Russia on the 22nd of the same month, where the two parties agreed on a ceasefire agreement, and an understanding between the Syrian Democratic Forces and Russian forces on the deployment of the Russian military police and Syrian border guards on borders on October 23.

Why the date of October 9?

The attacks of the Turkish occupation on October the 9th was not a mere coincidence. In 1998, the international conspiracy against the leader Ocalan began where Ocalan was expelled from Syria and handed over to Turkey on February 15, 1999.

The attacks on the 21st anniversary of the international conspiracy against Ocalan confirms the constant international conspiracy against Ocalan's ideology that is embodied in the democratic nation project in northeast Syria as a way for people's salvation and freedom.

Responses

The SDF made enormous sacrifices in their war against ISIS on behalf of humanity, attracting many friend's attention worldwide, protesting the Turkish attacks on the regions of NE Syria.

The responses of European states, especially France officials and party leaders in America and Europe never stopped. Rather, clear Arab positions against Turkish aggression emerged.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and the UAE condemned the attack, as well as the Arab League.

Turkey's internal conditions and the failure of its foreign projects

The Turkish regime always stir up nationalist sentiments to remain in power, as Turkey has always been experiencing difficult internal conditions following the alleged coup attempt in 2016 and the great economic deterioration and defections within the ranks of the Justice and Development Party.

In addition to the failure of foreign policies and interventionist projects in Egypt, Tunisia, Sudan, and Syria as well, it carried out ongoing attacks on the region peoples in order to neutralize the Turkeys interior under the alliance of the Justice and Development Party and the extreme Right Nationalist Movement Party.

The Turkish project in the region

The Deputy Co-Presidency of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration, Hamdan al-Abd, originally from the occupied Girê Spi, talks about the Turkish goals in the region and says: “Erdogan and the new Ottoman Empire want to expand the Turkish geographical area, starting from “Kassab through Aleppo, and the regions of north and east Syria, all the way to Kirkuk and Mosul.”

Al-Abd pointed out that since the beginning of the Syrian crisis, Turkey has sought to implement a "Brotherhood project" and annex new Syrian territories to the Ottoman map, relying on the refugee's card.

He pointed out that Turkey efforts of weaponizing the popular movement in to target the Syrian territories under different names, taking advantage of the Islamic religion.

Al-Abed confirms that Turkey does not want the development of democracy in the region, and the declaration of the Autonomous Administration, which includes a mixture of Arab and Kurdish, Assyrian and Turkmen tribal components and presence, and the contribution of all together to establish security and stability in the region, and not to differentiate between components and religions, and therefore the attacks were launched on their own after a failure. Followers in achieving its goals over the past years.
