Başur of Kurdistan is witnessing a state of chaos, administrative corruption, deterioration of freedoms, and suppression of opposing opinions by the Kurdistan Democratic Party, which has controlled Başur since 2005 alone.

Observers liken the KDP's policies to that of the Justice and Development Party in Turkey, the Baath Party in Syria and Iraq, and the mullahs' regime in Iran, given the one-party’s uniqueness of power and its suppression of other parties and intimidation of people.

Since last August, and after Turkey launched attacks on the legitimate defense areas, the KDP authorities raided the headquarters of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement for Society and arrested their cadres.

The Kurdistan Society Freedom Movement obtained the license number (139) on December 4, 2017, but the Kurdistan Democratic Party sees the movement as a threat to its authority, so it faces it by all means.

In this context, member of the Presidency of the Movement, Nariman Ahmed, spoke in an exclusive interview with our agency ANHA about the latest developments in Başur of Kurdistan, its crisis and the cooperation of some parties with the Turkish ocofcupation.

One-party control exacerbates the crisis

Ahmed points out that the current crisis in Başur is a result of the continuation of the policy followed since the independence of the government of Başur of Kurdistan from the central government in Baghdad in 1991, due to the exploitation of certain parties represented by the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union to achieve partisan interests.

Ahmed emphasized that the one-party rule is the main reason for the aggravation of the crisis, given the pursuit of personal interests.

He pointed out that the political, economic and social crisis is due to the failed policy pursued by the ruling party, in addition to the widespread administrative corruption in Başur.

Ahmed affirms that the parties that have intelligence relations with regional countries and external forces hostile to the Kurdish people, do not stand as an obstacle to their society only, but an obstacle to the national unity.

Opposition parties are weak

Ahmed touched on the role of the opposition parties, saying: “Other parties and forces have not been able to make fundamental changes, because they are a tool of the ruling authority.”

Ahmed expressed his regret at the weakness of the position of some Kurdish parties and movements in Başur, adding: "The weakness of the parties has opened the way for the Kurdistan Democratic Party to monitor the headquarters and activities of all parties in the country, and to remain entrenched in power and government."

Ahmed: There is no opposing forces except for the Freedom Movement.

Arresting members and closing offices

In the context, the Asayish of the KDP carried out raids in Hawler and Behdinan against members of the Kurdistan Community Freedom Movement since last August, and a member of the Presidium of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement, Nariman Ahmed, says, “The authorities closed all the headquarters of the Movement, and put great pressure on them.  "

He pointed out that the authorities arrest everyone who organizes uprisings and protests against them, especially in Bahdinan and Hewler.

As a result of the policy of repression of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, which controls the joints of the government in the country, Ahmed points out that the people have no hopes that this party will carry out reforms and solve the exacerbating problems at various levels.

Unlike the ruling party, the Kurdistan Freedom Movement, according to Ahmed, has projects to find solutions from the political, economic and social point of view, but the ruling party restricts their work.

He said, "The attacks and violations committed by the authorities against members of our movement, activists, journalists and civilians, demonstrate the authorities' weakness and failure in management."

Kurdistan Democratic fights against those that oppose Turkey

Ahmed pointed out that Turkey stands behind the hostility of the Kurdistan Democratic Party against the Kurdistan Community Freedom Movement.

He indicated that the position of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) on the Kurdish national unity is clear. He continued, saying: “During the Turkish occupation’s attacks on Rojava, the authorities of the KDP provided direct media support to the Turkish occupation.” He pointed out that the KDP participated in imposing the siege on Rojava.

Regarding the attacks of Turkey on the Kurdistan Region, Ahmed said: “Except for the intelligence support that the Democratic Party provides to the Turkish state, it promotes through its media and legitimizes the Turkish attacks by claiming that they are targeting the PKK?” Ahmed asked: Is the PKK also present in Libya, Syria and Cyprus? so why is Turkey attacking them?

Barzani's visit to Ankara

Ahmed touched on the visit of the President Barzani, to Turkey, and his meeting with Erdogan on the fourth of September.

Ahmed pointed out that Barzani met with French President Emmanuel Macron in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. France hostile stance toward Turkey is known, so he called Barzani to tell him that.

Ahmed said that Barzani's visit to Ankara came to fight the Kurdistan Liberation Forces, after the failure of Turkish military attacks on the legitimate defense areas in Kurdistan.

He drew attention to the silence of the Başur government, which the Kurdistan Democratic Party dominated, regarding the attacks launched by Turkey since June 15 and led to the death of tens of civilians and the displacement of hundreds of their villages, and said: “The Başur government legalizes the attacks and says it has links to the PKK. "

The position of the people of Başur is different from that of the parties

Ahmed expressed his regret at the lack of a clear position on the Kurdish parties in Başur regarding the attacks on the region, and indicated that most of the parties revolve around the orbit of the Kurdistan Democratic Party.

He noted that the position of the Parliament is weak, it cannot take new and strict decisions regarding the demands of the people and their fate.

However, he confirms that the people's position is completely different, and he continued, saying: “The people always go on in uprisings expressing their rejection of the attacks and policies hostile to the Kurdish issue, but despite this, the people's uprising remains limited due to the practices of the security forces of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, especially when People revolt against Turkey's attacks in the region.

Opposition parties are required to unify their ranks

Ahmed criticized the opposition parties in Başur for not building a coalition and uniting their forces to find appropriate solutions to transform the dictatorial power into a democratic administration.

In the conclusion of his speech, member of the Presidium of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement, Nariman Ahmed, called on the Kurdish parties in Başur to move more effectively to find solutions to the current situation and to make radical changes on the social and economic levels.

It should be noted that the authorities of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (PDK) in Hawler arrested, in early August, a member of the Freedom Movement, Tahseen Hussein, a member of the Kurdistan Women Organization (RJAK), Samira Muhammad Amin, and her son, Hello Sami, and the activist Bahar and a member of the Freedom Movement, Dr. Naji Haji, in addition to dozens of teachers and journalists.
