Amna Khader Turkey fights democracy in the person of women

Amna Khader, a member of the Syrian Women's Council, demanded from women in the world to join hands together to support Turkish women who are exposed to violence, at a time AKP is trying to withdraw from the Istanbul Convention to Combat Domestic Violence.

Recently, there has been an increase in suicides among women in Turkey, due to family violence and violation of women's rights, in the absence of an impartial judicial mechanism to redress and protect their rights.

Although Turkey signed the Istanbul Agreement in 2011 as part of the procedures it took to enter the European Union, the provisions of the agreement in combating domestic violence and protecting women's rights from violence and so on remained a dead letter, according to women's rights activists.

A number of leaders of the ruling Justice and Development Party in Turkey hinted at the possibility of withdrawing from this agreement because it contradicts the principles of the Islamic religion.

This is what angered a number of feminist organizations calling for achieving gender equality and creating a participatory environment.

Rejection of discrimination

In this regard, a member of the Syrian Women's Council from the Turkmen component, Amna Khadr, said: "The violations and violence practiced against women, whether Turkish or other ethnic groups, is not new. Since the 1990s, the Turkish government has pursued this policy, preventing women from studying and enrolling in universities under the name of religion.

As for ways to respond to these practices, Amna said that the domestic violence that has become widespread in Turkey has been rejected and protested by women who rejected these forms of discrimination, and were able to communicate their voices to international and international organizations to put pressure on the Turkish government, which was forced to sign the Istanbul Agreement, peaceful protests are among the most prominent ways.

Ideology transmission

She added, "These crimes committed in Turkey, in addition to cases of violence, especially family, have had serious repercussions, which have caused a deterioration in the psychological state of some women, and consequently the phenomenon of suicide is widespread, and the reason is the lack of an impartial judicial authority working to protect women's rights."

In her speech, Amna also touched on the danger of these inhumane practices spreading from Turkey to the terrorist groups that the latter formed and armed in Syria, through ideological feeding, such as ISIS and its ideas of rape under the name of mercenary marriage, which had devastating effects on Syrian women.

Fight against women

A member of the Syrian Women's Council, Amna Khader, indicated that there are politicians and leadership women who have been targeted by the Turkish government for certain goals and to undermine and weaken the will of women, but this thing was rejected and increased the strength and determination of women.

As for the reason for the Turkish state’s continued targeting of liberal women leaders, Amna said, “If we ask why women are fought by the Turkish state? Because women are trying to lead society towards a liberal, participatory and democratic thought, and all of this contradicts the internal Turkish state systems.”

Women of the world are united

Amna stressed that they adhere to laws to protect women's rights, and in this regard, she said, "We in the women's liberation movement cannot stand idly by in front of these violations. We condemn all countries that violate women and join our voices to the voices of Turkey and the world to make a single protest to stop systematic violence in general."

A member of the Syrian Women's Council, Amna Khader, ended her speech by calling on Turkish women to unite to reject these practices because in case of neglect, the next stage will witness marginalization of the rights of women in Turkey.
