Running joint Russian-Turkish patrol west of Kobane

Our agency's correspondent indicated that the patrol set out on Thursday morning from the border village of Ashma, west of Kobane, and it is scheduled to roam the villages of Zormgarh, Dikmdash, Khorkhori, Buban, Seftek and other villages on this road, and then return to the starting point where the patrol ends.

4 armored vehicles from each side in addition to 2 Russian helicopters participate in the patrol.

It should be noted that running the patrol comes in implementation of the Sochi Agreement between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on October 22, 2019, days after Turkey launched an aggression against Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî regions.

The agreement stipulated the withdrawal of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to beyond 30 kilometers from the Syrian-Turkish border, and the conduct of joint Russian-Turkish patrols on the borders at a distance of no more than 9 kilometers in depth of the Syrian territories.

Among the most prominent provisions of the agreement at the time was the cessation of all combat operations in the region, but since then, the Turkish side has been continuing to violate the agreement by launching attacks on the area and bombing it, either with artillery or drones, and the Turkish violations of the ceasefire agreement caused dozens of civilian casualties; killed and injured over the past months.

For its part, the Syrian Democratic Forces adhered to the agreement and withdrew its forces away from the borders, so that forces from the Syrian government's border guards took over the task of supervising the Syrian-Turkish borders, and they stopped all combat operations unilaterally.

Furthermore, both Russia and America, the two guarantors of the ceasefire agreements, remain silent about the Turkish violations and attacks on the safe areas of northern and eastern Syria.
