Power is cut in all Syrian regions due to explosion in gas pipeline in Damascus countryside

Electricity Minister Mohamed Zuhair Kharboutli told SANA that the explosion took place between al-Dameer and Adra areas in Damascus countryside.

Kharboutli explained that the explosion, which is the sixth of its kind to which this pipeline has been exposed in the same area led to a drop in the gas pressure at Deir Ali generation station, and thus gas quantities were lost.

The explosion shut the rest of the stations down in succession, which led to a power cut.

the Minister of Electricity was quoted as saying that the explosion may have been a "terrorist act."

For his part, Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources, Engineer Ali Ghanem, said that the Arab gas pipeline feeding the southern region had suffered an explosion resulting from a "terrorist" act.

Ghanem added: "We were able to separate the sectional valves for this line according to its stages, meaning we separate the location of the malfunction or the terrorist attack on this line, thus replenishing al-Nasiriyah station and Jandar station with gas, and gradually returning the electric current."
