Dems nominate Biden to challenge Trump for the US presidency

As it was expected, the majority of Democratic delegates voted for the former Vice President, on the second day of the Democratic National Convention hosted by Milwaukee (the north of the country) and its events are taking place in an unprecedented manner due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 77-years-old Biden commented in a direct video message by saying, "Thank you from the bottom of my heart."

Biden will accept the nomination Thursday, in a speech to conclude the conference, after which the election campaign will intensify.

Former Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton were the stars of the second evening of the conference, and both accused President Trump of spreading "chaos" at a time when the country was experiencing a serious economic and health crisis.

"The Oval Office should be a command center, but instead, it's the eye of the storm," Clinton said. "There is nothing but chaos in it."

For his part, Carter praised Biden, citing "his experience, personality and tact," asserting that he was able to "unite us and restore America's greatness."

Biden won the support of two respected figures in the Republican Party, namely, General and former Secretary of State Colin Powell and Cindy McCain, the widow of Senator John McCain, the hero of the Vietnam War who died in 2018 and whom Trump had greatly detested, and they see that Biden is able to unite the moderates on both sides.

Biden had attacked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, calling him an authoritarian and pledging to topple him if he wins the US presidential elections.
