Zainab Jalalien entered 4th day on hunger strike, her health deteriorates

Zainab Jalalyan was infected with the coronavirus after being transferred on May 21 from "Khoy" detention center in Urmia province to "Kargak" detention camp near Tehran.

Accordingly, Zainab Jalaliyan announced that she would begin a hunger strike, unless she was returned to the previous prison in Urmiya, Rojhilat (east Kurdistan).

The detainee entered today, on the fourth day of the hunger strike, and her health condition is deteriorating day after day due to the Iranian authorities not allowing her to undergo medical supervision after she was infected with the coronavirus.

The arrested lawyer, accompanied by Zainab Jalalyan "Suhaila Hijab", announced her participation in the hunger strike, by recording a voice, and she appealed to all parties and human rights organizations to break their silence regarding the situation of Zainab Jalalyan.

In its turn, the Free Women’s Association of Rojhilat (east Kurdistan) issued a written statement to public opinion on June 7 stating that Jalalyan’s situation was at risk, and said that the Iranian regime used prison as a torture room for political prisoners, especially women, in order to silence and undermine political will and freedom.

In its statement, the Free Women Association (KJAR) called on all forces, freedom fighters, civil society, human rights organizations and women's organizations not to remain silent about the situation of political prisoners in Iranian prisons.

Zainab Jalalyan has been imprisoned for 13 years by Iranian authorities. She was sentenced to death by hanging after her arrest in 2007, then retried to life imprisonment with hard labor. Her health and psychological condition has deteriorated significantly during the recent period due to the torture practiced against her in prison.
