Caesar sanctions put 39 people, entities on its list, Washington vows more

Pompeo said in a statement: "Today, we begin the sanctions campaign against the Syrian regime under Caesar Law which will allow imposing major economic sanctions on al-Assad regime and its allies."

He also clarified that the first package of sanctions will affect Bashar al-Assad and his wife, in addition to 39 other entities and individuals.

In addition, he affirmed: "The campaign of holding the Syrian regime accountable for the atrocities it committed against the civilians continues under the Caesar Law and the Executive Order 13894 in order to prevent it from obtaining the financial returns that support the atrocities committed against the Syrian people."

The American State Department's statement indicated that "among the targeted names of the sanctions is one of the financiers of al-Assad's atrocities, Mohammed Hamsho, in addition to the Iranian Fatimiyun Division."

The names of Maher al-Assad with his Fourth Division and its leaders Ghassan Ali Bilal and Samer al-Dana were also included in the targeted list.

To that, it included the names of Bushra al-Assad (Bashar's sister), Manal al-Assad, Ahmed Saber Hamsho, Amr Hamsho, Ali Hamsho, Rania al-Dabbas, and Sumaya Khumsa.

Pompeo concluded by stressing that "this campaign to punish the heads of the regime will continue in the coming weeks and months, targeting the individuals and companies supporting al-Assad and who are obstructing the peaceful political solution to the conflict, as stipulated in UN Security Council Resolution 2254."
