​​​​​​​Iraqi parliamentarians condemn government's silence towards Turkish violations - UPDATED

Kareem Alewi, a member of the Security and Defense Committee in the Iraqi parliament said: "The continued encroachment on the Iraqi territory by the Turkish forces is a clear violation of Iraqi sovereignty."

He added: "The Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs should call the Turkish ambassador and submit a protest paper, and may reach a complaint with the United Nations." He continue:, "We see (what Turkey) committed of violation of Iraqi sovereignty, which is considered a disregard for the UN resolutions on the one hand and the sovereignty of Iraq on the other hand."

In the same context, the deputy in the Iraqi parliament (the representative of the Change Bloc) said in a statement: "Yesterday, the Turkish warplanes bombed several regions of Kurdistan Region, especially the border areas of Bradost and the (Restum Judy) camp in Mexmûr and Sinjar as well. The repetition of these Turkish interventions to the Iraqi lands and the lack of respect for the Iraqi sovereignty indicates that the Turkish government is taking advantage of the silence of the Iraqi government."

Mohammed added: "While we strongly condemn these repeated violations of the Iraqi sovereignty and indiscriminate shelling of large areas of the Kurdistan region - Iraq without any deterrent, neither by the federal government nor by the Kurdistan Region Government – Iraq, we stress once again the need to stop these daily interventions of the Turkish government in the Iraqi territory."

The deputy renewed his demand for "the federal government and the Iraqi parliament, especially the three presidencies to take a serious and resolute stance towards the continued bombing of Iraqi-Kurdistan border villages and towns, as well as calling for the defense of the defenseless citizens who deserve a safe and dignified life, not living daily under fire."

Kawa Mohamed called on the United Nations and international organizations to "have a role in stopping the repeated attacks by the Turkish aircrafts and limiting the martyrdom and displacement of the citizens of those areas."

Şengal province, Mexmûr refugee camp in Başûr (South Kurdistan) and the legitimate defense zones, were subjected to fierce bombing this morning by the Turkish occupation warplanes.
